Danny O'Brien: Former Maryland QB Set to Transfer to Wisconsin
Former Maryland quarterback Danny O'Brien is reportedly set to transfer to Wisconsin, according to CBSSports.com.
O'Brien, a sophomore, follows in the footsteps of former Badgers quarterback Russell Wilson, who also transferred in from N.C. State. And all Wilson did last season was lead the Badgers to the Rose Bowl.
O'Brien had a promising rookie year with the Terrapins, throwing for over 2,400 yards and 22 touchdowns with just eight interceptions. But the North Carolina native struggled last season in the dawn of the Randy Edsall era and was granted his release from the football program.
O'Brien was choosing between Penn State and Vanderbilt, but his visit with Badgers head coach Bret Bielema and new offensive coordinator Matt Canada apparently tipped the scale. O'Brien was reportedly "blown away" by the visit.
Not a bad grab for a Wisconsin program that just lost Wilson. The Badgers had an impressive campaign last season, making it to the Rose Bowl before getting knocked off by high-powered Oregon, 45-38. The Badgers beat Nebraska, Penn State and Michigan State during their run.
O'Brien certainly has the talent to get back to his 2010 form. That's why Wisconsin went after him in the first place. He will be a nice addition for the Badgers and has a shot at winning the starting job.
At this rate, Wisconsin may as well look at all the top players in the country set to transfer. The Badgers certainly have a high success rate.
