Amar'e Stoudemire and 5 NBA Stars That Talk Better Than They Play
NBA stars have earned the right to speak their mind and let us fans know exactly what they're thinking. They've even earned the right to brag on occasion and talk about how much better than their opponents they are
But these players take that right to the extreme.
Sometimes, mouths run a little too often for the rest of the body to catch up and you're left with a star who talks better than he can play.
Read on to find out who they are.
Carmelo Anthony
1 of 6Carmelo Anthony annoyed basketball fans around the world last season with the never-ending trade rumors that eventually resulted in the New York Knicks shipping off a ton of good young players for the superstar.
Since then, Melo has been in the spotlight often, but it's not always been for the right reasons. Remember that Linsanity thing that happened not too long ago? Fans were already giving up on the small forward before he'd even completed a full season with the team.
How to Respond to Anthony: "Hey Melo, how come the Denver Nuggets have a better record than your Knicks?"
Kevin Garnett
2 of 6Kevin Garnett may not be quite as outspoken with the media as he used to be, but he still trash talks on the court with the best of them and you won't manage to watch a single Boston Celtics game without seeing his ridiculous intensity.
While he was younger and, quite frankly, better, KG could back this up. But not anymore.
Garnett is having a great, efficient season, but he's not longer one of the best players in the league. You wouldn't know that if you just watched and listened to him.
How to respond to Garnett: "ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE...except you shutting up or getting any younger."
Blake Griffin
3 of 6There's a popular saying that sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words, and in this case that picture is metaphorically representing Blake Griffin's stares after dunks.
No matter what the situation is in the game, no matter how fancy the dunk was, no matter who he's playing, Griffin responds to big dunks by just staring with an intense look on his face.
He then proceeds to act entitled throughout the rest of the game and complain about each and every single call that the officials make. It wouldn't surprise me if he started complaining about drawing fouls because he had to "shoot" free throws.
I love watching him play, but the staring and entitlement is quickly getting old. No player in the history of the game is good enough to back that up, much less a second-year power forward.
How to respond to Griffin: Just stare back and then send him to the free-throw line.
LeBron James
4 of 6LeBron James is enjoying one of the best statistical regular seasons we NBA fans have seen in quite some time. If there's anybody on this list who could justify saying almost anything, it would be the starting small forward for the Miami Heat.
But James said the one thing that will put him on this list until he wins a title. Yep, you guessed it.
How to respond to James: "You've won not seven...not six...not five...not four...not three...not two...not even one ring."
Amar'e Stoudemire
5 of 6Amar'e Stoudemire has never been afraid to say what he feels, regardless of the medium.
The problem is, the big man for the New York Knicks hasn't been able to deliver what he was expected to bring with him when he signed with the Knicks during the free agency bonanza of the summer of 2011.
In fact, Stoudemire seems to be declining rapidly and is producing at a level that no supposed superstar belongs at. This season, he's averaging 17.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per game with a PER of just 17.57, numbers that are all well below his career marks.
Plus, he can't stay on the court at all.
How to respond to Stoudemire: "Have you seen what your numbers look like lately?"
Non-Stars Who Deserve Mentions
6 of 6Matt Barnes
Always one of the cockiest players in the league, Matt Barnes' words would mean a little bit more if, you know, he could score 20 points even once in a season.
Rashard Lewis
To have an albatross of a contract like Rashard Lewis does, you have to be able to talk better than you play.
Lamar Odom
Lamar Odom's level of play indicates that he should be completely silent this season, not complaining about anything and everything that happens in Dallas.
J.R. Smith
Any man who has "Swish" tattooed on his jawline and refuses to stop shooting no matter how many times he's missed is going to wind up on here.
DeShawn Stevenson
I don't think DeShawn Stevenson knows how to stop talking.
Jason Terry
Remember, this is the guy who called himself one of the best three-point shooters in NBA history during last year's playoffs.
