Chelsea Transfers: 10 Players Roman Abramovich May Offload This Summer
To put it gently Chelsea Football Club are a mess at the moment.
Andre Villas-Boas' justified departure has left the club in the middle of an emotional crisis with players not aligned with management or with each other for the most part.
The Club's injury riddled captain, John Terry, has been at the center of controversy yet again having seen his England National team captaincy stripped from him.
Despite all the frustration surrounding the club, Terry has hit back in the press claiming that club owner Roman Abramovich has it all under control:
"We win and lose together at this club—we're all responsible for the results we have.
As for the senior players running this football club, that's nonsense. That's just the perception from outside. Roman and the board make the decisions.
On the football pitch, that can affect what happens upstairs of course. If we don't win matches, the board step in. People speculating from various different clubs or previous managers, that's complete nonsense.
"
Despite it all, the club are in the heart of a transitional phase and there is a chance there could be a mass exodus from Stamford Bridge this summer if the club fails to make a comeback against Napoli in the UEFA Champions League and if they fail to re-qualify to the Champions League at the end of the season.
Flourent Malouda
1 of 11French international Flourent Malouda is one of multiple squad members that look to be on the chopping block in the coming months.
With only one year remaining on his contract he has been speculated in the Daily Mirror as being ready to take his leave from London.
At 31 years of age there is still time for Malouda to sign another contract with a new club, but his days at Chelsea appear to be coming to an end.
Yossi Benayoun
2 of 11As for now, Yossi Benayoun is set to return to Chelsea at the end of the season with his one-year loan to Arsenal expiring in 10 matches.
However, there is no guarantee that he will remain a Blue having been frustrated by injury his first season in London after moving from Liverpool and now spending his second campaign at the Emirates.
Salomon Kalou
3 of 11Ivory Coast international winger Salomon Kalou is one of the younger players that could be leaving Chelsea.
His reputation has been more as a super-sub for the club having never been a consistent presence in the starting 11 during his six years at the club.
With only eight league appearances this season he is sure to want to take his talents elsewhere.
Liverpool and Arsenal were both rumored suitors according to Givemefootball.com in January 2012.
Jose Bosingwa
4 of 11Jose Bosingwa is one of several Chelsea players that were rumored to be sold in January according to the Daily Mail in December of 2011.
However, that did not come to pass, but it is unlikely the Portuguese right-back will last the summer.
Fernando Torres
5 of 11Chelsea caretaker Roberto Di Matteo believes that £50 million signing Fernando Torres is suffering from psychological problems that have him stuck in a rut of poor form:
"He has a psychological problem and only Fernando can unlock it. If he needs me, I am always here but it is obvious the change must come from him.
He must not think about how much he cost the club. He must concentrate only on playing and not about scoring, or providing an assist or making a great play every time he touches the ball.
He should not think about scoring goals, only about playing simple football. The rest will take care of itself. My approach with Fernando will always be a natural one.
Fernando is still a great striker and I am sure he has not forgotten how to score goals. He is one of the strongest forwards in the world.
He has scored so many goals in recent years and I'm sure he will continue to do so in the future. He will succeed because he is still young. He just needs to regain his confidence.
"
Torres could be ousted this summer with Roman Abramovich possibly trying to recoup some of his massive flop of an investment to put towards new signings.
Daniel Sturridge
6 of 11Young striker Daniel Sturridge has seen himself make great strides forward this season, as he has continued to use the experience of consistent first team play at Bolton Wanderers last campaign to improve in every chance he gets for the Blues.
However, with the constant turmoil surrounding the club, he has been linked with a shock move to London rivals Arsenal by Metro as well as a return to his previous club Manchester City in the Daily Mail.
Paulo Ferreira
7 of 11The news on Paulo Ferreira continues to be quiet, as the 33-year-old Portuguese defender is another that is seeing no return to Stamford Bridge this summer.
With only five appearances this season it now is looking blatantly clear that the veteran is no longer needed.
Ashley Cole
8 of 11The Daily Mirror claims that Ashley Cole is going nowhere from Chelsea after having been linked to multiple other clubs.
However, Russian rich boys Anzhi Makhachkala have been reported to be offering Cole £200,000-a-week by The Sun if he takes a move.
Total Football Madness also has Cole linked with a move to Real Madrid.
Branislav Ivanovic
9 of 11Chelsea's Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic has been a sporadic but solid part of the Blues since he joined the club four years ago.
However, Ivanovic has still never truly been more than a utility defender and never a true fixture in the first 11.
At the age of 28 there is still time that he could make a run to impress and remain at Chelsea over the run-in, but he is likely to be yet another that is left out to dry this summer.
Didier Drogba
10 of 11Following in the footsteps of former striker partner Nicolas Anelka, Ivorian striker Didier Drogba looks to be making the right strides in taking a free transfer to Shanghai Shenhua.
However, if the Blues were to magically find a way to return Jose Mourinho to the hot seat, Drogba would most likely remain in London for at least another season.
Conclusion
11 of 11Chelsea have a lot of work to do over the next few transfer windows.
Roman Abramovich needs to find a manager that he actually can trust to rebuild the squad, as the current stars are largely aged out and the club is in a huge need for refreshment.
