25 NBA Stars Who Would Give Us the Best in-Game Tweets

Jesse DorseyJun 7, 2018

Twitter has taken over the NBA and the world as we know it, flooding our minds with things we never really wanted to know in the first place, but are happy we know it after reading it.

Whether it be a tweet from Kevin Durant answering some fans questions or one from LeBron James which the media unnecessarily hounds him for, this Twitter thing has really turned into an interesting tool for athletes.

However, the powers that be in the NBA and in every major sport for that matter have declared that tweeting during games is against the rules, lobbing fines toward anyone who dare tweet during a game.

I say throw out this ancient policy and move into the 21st century. Don't just let them tweet during games, let them tweet while their on the floor. I can't wait to see JaVale McGee getting dunked on because he's too busy tweeting about the game while he's standing in the post.

Give the fans what they want and let these players tweet, and if this ever does happen, here are some guys who I would really like some insight from during games.

Tony Allen

1 of 25

Tony Allen tweets about everything, and I mean ev-e-ry-thing.

He gets on a plane, tweet. He gets off a plane, tweet. He goes to the gym, tweet. He eats dinner, tweet. This dude can't keep himself from tweeting.

All I want to know is whether or not he would be running up the court with his phone in his hands typing out a tweet after every play he makes, telling his followers that he just dribbled the ball six times or kept Josh Smith from scoring.

Daniel Gibson

2 of 25

Daniel Gibson is one of those tweeters who always passes along uplifting and inspirational thoughts, usually with some sort of Christian undertones, which can be pretty cool at times. It's not the usual, "Keep your head up," kind of stuff, but real thoughts.

Having him tweet during games would be like getting little 140 character in-game pep talks from the guy on the bench. That wouldn't be too bad.

Luke Walton

3 of 25

I want to know what's going on in the day to day with the Lakers and what happens during their games, but I want it from an outside, unbiased source. So as a guy who is on the team only by association, and who has lots of free time during games, Luke Walton is the obvious choice.

All I need to see are tweets along the line of, "Kobe just glared at Coach Brown the whole time he was talking during that timeout, no way he runs his play," or, "Jack Nicholson just shook my hand! I didn't even think he knew who I was!"

Give me that, Luke, and I'll be happy.

Blake Griffin

4 of 25

I want in-game Blake tweets for two main reasons and two reasons only.

First, I want to see him tweeting at DeAndre Jordan every six seconds, as he's prone to do on his Twitter, which usually is useful for some entertainment. Anything and everything that goes through his mind seems to get an @deandrejordan attached to it.

Then, I want to give him another outlet to complain about the referees through. It hasn't been enough that he's become one of the more whiny players in the league, I want to see the tweets at Joey Crawford and Dick Bavetta asking him why they called fouls on him.

Greg Oden

5 of 25

If I'd want anyone's opinions from the bench, it would be Greg Oden's.

Oden would be great to get little tidbits from about the Blazers during a game, plus he could tweet constantly without having to deal with that pesky bit of actually playing in a game. Plus if there's ever an in-game injury, he can tweet out his expert opinion.

My guess at a typical Greg Oden tweet during a game would be something like, "LaMarcus Aldridge just dunked on Kevin Love, I think that dunk gave me another microfracture."

Kevin Love

6 of 25

Kevin Love is one of those perfect tweeters to me. He doesn't overload his account with people begging for retweets or tweets to hoochie mommas in any given town. He's just out there tweeting about his team every once in a while.

When he does tweet, which is once or twice a day, it gives us a look at the Timberwolves that we wouldn't have gotten otherwise, which I think makes him a really valuable tweeter.

I'm sure he would do the same if he was allowed his phone while playing a game.

Brandon Jennings

7 of 25

Brandon Jennings is one of the most interactive tweeters in the NBA, and if you're down with that sort of thing then he's the dude to follow.

He's constantly tweeting back at people that tweet at him and he even has a feud here and there over the internet. It's pretty entertaining.

I'd love to see him start tweeting at fans in the arena during games who are going bonkers over his outburst of scoring.

Kevin Garnett

8 of 25

Three words. Twitter trash talk.

Kevin Garnett has turned into such a notorious trash talker that I think it's time to see him in action, as I'm sure many of his fans would love to see what he says to a player to get under his skin.

Plus, there won't be any more confusion over whether or not Garnett called Charlie Villanueva a cancer to his team or a cancer patient.

Kevin Durant

9 of 25

Lately, Kevin Durant has been running his Twitter account in a way that it seems most athletes should start doing by just answering fans questions.

Whether it's a personal thing like, "Ice cream or pizza?" or just a fan inquiring about why he left Texas after one year, Durant gets on a personal level with his people.

It's more than just tweeting back at them, it's letting them get to know him, and I'd sure like to see that happen during a game.

Plus, I'd like to see him defend Russell Westbrook after he takes a big shot for the team without passing to Durant.

Brian Scalabrine

10 of 25

I kind of like the fact that Brian Scalabrine doesn't tweet, as it adds to the mystique that surrounds the man known as the White Mamba.

However, if David Stern suddenly lets players tweet during games then this man needs to get himself an account.

If not for the random musings, he can have fans tweet him what they want him to do when he finally gets on the court and inevitably gets the ball in his hands.

Rajon Rondo

11 of 25

For the rumors that have swirled over the past few months, I'd love to hear the "in the moment spite tweets" coming from Rajon Rondo.

Think about what he would say as soon as the Celtics won Saturday after he put up his 20-18-17 on the Knicks or if he ended up making a game-winning play.

Spite tweets are where it's at.

Russell Westbrook

12 of 25

Russell Westbrook would be in the same category as Rajon Rondo, spewing spite tweets left and right to get the media off his back.

He makes a big shot late in the game? Spite tweet. He passes off to Kevin Durant? Spite tweet. Oklahoma City wins the title? Ultimate spite tweet.

Joakim Noah

13 of 25

As far as I've been able to tell, Joakim Noah is not an active part of the Twitter world, and that's probably a good thing, given that he's outspoken enough as an NBA player.

I like that Noah creates little feuds here and there, whether it be with the entire city of Cleveland or with Kevin Garnett. Joakim Noah just doesn't like certain people, and that's cool.

What I want to see now is the big fella starting to call out people on Twitter during games for all of the world to watch.

Rasheed Wallace (if and When He Comes Back)

14 of 25

As the owner of the Twitter account that had so much potential but just never got off the ground, this would be something interesting to see.

I was ready to see Rasheed rant and rave about this and that in his personal life, but he always complained that he was too busy for Twitter and he fizzled out early. If he does end up making his NBA comeback this year, I want that man to have a Blackberry in his pocket for the entire game.

If anything, we ought to at least get a few, "BALL DON'T LIE!" tweets during free throw attempts by the other team, and that would be enough for me.

Dwight Howard

15 of 25

I'm not sure, but I think every single tweet that comes out of @DwightHoward is an advertisement. Hell, he may not even be running it, it could be his PR guy or his manager.

Still, if this is Howard, I'd like to see what kinds of products he tries to push, whose friends videos he wants us to watch and what contests he wants us to be a part of, all while pulling down 20 rebounds.

Deron Williams

16 of 25

The only thing I would really want from a Deron Williams Twitter account during games would be subtle hints as to what he's planning on doing this Summer.

If the Nets have a bad night and the team plays terribly, maybe he hints that he's interested in getting a little barbeque down in Texas after the game. If the team has a good game and plays well, maybe he's pondering about places to live in New York City while getting a breather on the bench.

Basically, I just want him to drive people crazy, that would be worth it for me.

Lamar Odom

17 of 25

Lamar Odom used to have an entertaining Twitter account, that is until he became a part of the Kardashian squad and everything on there turned into an advertisement for their terrible shows.

At this point he's backed off the Kardashian whoring a bit and has gone back to his roots, tweeting about his days in Dallas, but that Kardashian sizzle is still sprinkled in.

However, when I really want to hear what he thinks is during a game. I want to know his thoughts when he steps into the tunnel at halftime with four points on 1-of-6 shooting and how he feels about it.

DeMarcus Cousins

18 of 25

I've always like big, angry basketball players who try to impose their will on their opponents, now I want to see DeMarcus Cousins start to do it via Twitter during games.

I'd love to see the big man go off every once in a while one certain players he's been guarding for the night and talking trash to them over the internet. That would just be some good old fashioned entertainment.

Andray Blatche

19 of 25

Now that the Wizards are the most embarrassing team in the league and Andray Blatche is the grandfather of that embarrassment (JaVale McGee is the current king, but Blatche has been around too long to be ignored), Blatche gets booed every time he touches the ball.

This has started to wear on him as he's been visibly shaken during games, missing easy bunny jumpers and softly defended layups. So, at this point I'm ready to see the in-game fury fly on Twitter.

I want to see whether Blatche will plead with fans to stop booing him or just go on a rant about the fans, finally convincing the Wizards to release the man.

LeBron James

20 of 25

LeBron James is a very prolific tweeter, tweeting about this and that and the goings on in sports and things happening around the league. Generally, he just uses his Twitter account to broadcast his thoughts on what's going on around the league.

However, there are times where he'll tweet something innocuous, not meaning anything by it, and the media will pick it up and run with it.

I'd love to see an in-game tweet run the course of disbelief, anger and outrage until it's forgotten about, all before the game ends.

Jared Dudley

21 of 25

Jared Dudley is one of the most actively funny tweeters out there in the NBA, so of course I would like to see him put those skills to work during a game and while on the court.

On top of his tweets, Dudley runs a mock "TMZ" style show which he calls "JMZ" in which he will interview his teammates and just post videos about what the team is doing on any given day. These can be both informative and hilariously entertaining, just depending on how Dudley is feeling on any particular day.

Metta World Peace

22 of 25

Ron Artest's Twitter account can, at times, be a wasteland of confusing quotes from a man who seems to be struggling with who he is as a person. Other times it can be an outlet for insightful thoughts, and still other times it can be a place for Metta World Peace to give us his thoughts about why he doesn't score much anymore and just put his sometimes strange thoughts onto the Internet.

I'm ready to see him take this talent to the court. I'm ready to see exactly what this guy is thinking while he's on the court—lord knows we've all wondered that at least a time or two.

John Wall

23 of 25

All I can think of what John Wall would say on Twitter during a game would be depressing at best.

Everything from tweets about how few people are in the stands to see them on any given night to what idiotic thing JaVale McGee did on that night.

It would be a look into the depressed, stressed out mind of Wall, who has to be bothered by this Wizards team more than anyone out there.

Delonte West

24 of 25

There once was a day when Delonte West was one of my favorite people to follow on Twitter. There was just something about hearing about his day to day life that made me like him anymore.

However, he's gotten in trouble for things he's tweeted before and now he has seemingly shut down his Twitter account, with everything but a few tweets taken down.

Anyway, Delonte with an open Twitter account during games would probably be an extremely entertaining look into the mind of West, who is still one of the best backup guards in the league, despite all of his troubles off the court.

JaVale McGee

25 of 25

There are so many reasons I want to see McGee tweet during a game.

First of all, knowing him, he would probably go up for a dunk with his Blackberry in one hand and the ball in the other, recording his dunk and then tweet it as soon as he slams it home.

Aside from that there are his completely ridiculous tweets that even I cant decipher at times. For example, he has his tweets like this, where McGee proclaims for the second time that he's as tired as a house. How a house is tired, I don't know, and how a person can measure their tiredness up against a house is beyond me.

All I know is that this man has some strange and enjoyable thoughts.

Now it's time for my own shameless Twitter plug:

If you are one of those Tweeters, you can follow me @JDorsey33.
