Grant Holt: 6 Reasons Norwich City Striker Is Undervalued in EPL
Grant Holt can consider himself unlucky to have missed out on a call-up to the England squad. However, there is still an outside chance, that the striker will get a seat on the plane to Euro 2012.
Nevertheless, it does seem that people outside Norfolk do not rate him particularly highly. Holt and manager Paul Lambert have alluded that playing for Norwich may be hurting his international chances.
He Does Not Play for a Glamour Club
1 of 6There is a fundamental problem with the way that the England squad is selected. The players and clubs with the biggest reputations get in. The so-called smaller clubs do not get any consideration.
England will need four to five strikers to take to Euro 2012. However, there is only one standout choice; that is, of course, Wayne Rooney. If the squad was picked on merit, then Holt and Danny Graham would be straight in. Both these players have scored 10 Premier League goals.
However, Darren Bent, Danny Welbeck and Frazier Campbell are all seen as better options. Even though all three have been less impressive this season.
Holt Is Too Old!
2 of 6For some reason, we prefer to hand out the crazy praise on young players than experienced players. Holt is not seen as the future of the Premier League.
However, on current form he deserves praise. The Norwich City striker has outperformed his younger rivals on a number of occasions this season. A classic example of this was at Carrow Road—when Holt showed Welbeck a thing or two.
Grant Has Played Most of His Football in the Lower Leagues
3 of 6Holt has played most of his football in the lower leagues. With the exception of a season at Nottingham Forest, the striker has been a consistent scored.
Holt was prolific for Norwich in League One and the Championship. However, outsiders do not give Holt the respect he deserves because he is not a household name.
Grant Holt Has Awesome Workrate
4 of 6Now that we have covered why people do not rate Holt, it's time to look at some reasons why he should be rated. Anyone that has watched Grant Holt knows that he is not a lazy striker.
Yes, he is a clinical finisher. But he is so much more than that. Simply put, Holt works like a horse. When he has not got the ball, he will not be wandering around with his arms in the air.
Grant will be chasing the ball in any part of the pitch. It is not unusual to see Holt picking up the ball in a wide position. Over the last few seasons he has set up a fair few goals as well as scoring them himself. Grant is a true team player.
Holt Has Scored Goals Against Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea
5 of 6Grant Holt is not one of those strikers that only scores goals against the so-called weaker opposition. This season Holt has scored goals on the biggest stages against the best teams.
Away goals at Anfield, Goodison Park and Stamford Bridge stand out. As well as the stunning finish at Carrow Road against Manchester United.
Grant Holt Is a Real Footballer
6 of 6Grant Holt has come up from the lower leagues and really appreciates the opportunity to play Premier League football. He has had to work hard in League One and League Two. At times he would not have been paid a lot, but his love of the game and determination has got him to the top level.
Grant Holt is grateful for the opportunity Norwich City has given him, but Norwich City are grateful to have Grant Holt. It is a partnership made in heaven.
