Manchester United: 4 Players Who Need to Be Ditched This Summer

Karla Villegas GamaMar 5, 2012

Sir Alex Ferguson has a squad mixed with young, talented promises and experienced footballers, but that doesn't mean all of them deserve to be on the team or have been cornerstones lately.

Some members, like Michael Owen, have decreased their performance dramatically, either because of injuries or due to their teammates' skills.

This doesn't mean that those Red Devils are not talented, but it may be the right time for the club to look for members that adjust better to its necessities.

Dimitar Berbatov

Dimitar Berbatov is a very experienced and creative striker, but warming the bench makes no good for the team.

With Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernández fighting to become the starting forward, Berbatov has been left behind and hardly ever plays.

This season, Berba has seen 14 games from the bench and has been linked to clubs like Russian Anzhi Makhachkala.

Fabio

The 21 year-old Brazilian has seen more action from the bench than on the pitch. Fabio has gone through several injuries, which have sidelined him this season.

His most recent appearances came at the Europa League, but he wasn't a key factor despite his speed and dribbling skills.

Ashley Young has successfully covered the left flank in recent meetings — he even scored twice last weekend — which puts Fabio in a shaky position.

Michael Owen

It's been a terrible season for Michael Owen. His injury last November at the group stage of the UEFA Champions League was a clear sign that at age 32 a muscle lesion is a big deal.

He was supposed to be out for six weeks, but it was until February when he finally started training, but still hasn't been back to the lineup.

In the previous season he appeared 17 times and scored five goals. Maybe this time Sir Alex Ferguson will let him go.

Rafael

Rafael, like his brother Fabio, hasn't had the continuity he'd wanted, and despite his toughness hasn't been a cornerstone for the team.

With players like Antonio Valencia, who has become United's best winger, and defenders like Jones and Evans, who have settled as starters, the Brazilian player isn't in the best spot.

It's true that he's young and has a long career ahead of him, but maybe United isn't the right team to flourish, taking into consideration the fierce competition inside the club.
