College Football Recruiting 2013: Power Ranking the Top 25 Recruits
We're going to give you the right now power rankings of the top 25 college football prospects for 2013. These are "power rankings," and it's early, so surely this list is bound to be evolving and fluid as we move forward.
However, for right now, these are the top 25 prospects on my board. I'm still evaluating and gathering information on prospects around the country, but here's the top 25 guys I like so far.
Let's get to it.
25. O.J. Howard, TE
1 of 25Howard will be one of the top, if not the top, prospects in Alabama this year.
He's a 6'5", 225-pound TE prospect with excellent athletic ability, good speed and length and can also play DE.
Committed to Alabama.
24. Derrick Grffin, WR
2 of 25Griffin reminds a lot of Mike Williams during his days at USC.
He's 6'6", 215-pounds and has good strength, can combat press overage and has length to aid his catch radius, leaping ability, good hands and above-average play speed.
Committed to Texas A&M.
23. Kent Perkins, OL
3 of 25Perkins is a big OT prospect at 6'5", 200 pounds. He's a Texan that of course is committed to Texas.
Perkins can play OT or OG and shows solid strength, quick feet and mirror ability and flashes some adjust-on-the-move potential in the run game.
22. Altee Tenpenny, RB
4 of 25Tenpenny came into his junior year looking to set some records but got hurt and missed much of the season.
But he's still one of the best players in the country, as the 6'0", 205-pound rock toter has a great combo of size and speed.
He's pledged to Alabama.
21. E.J. Levenberry, LB
5 of 25Levenberry could be in the same class as Curtis Grant of a few years ago. He's a stout 6'3", 230-pound LB who comes from Virginia, like Grant.
Levenberry is uber-productive, totaling 151 tackles last season, along with four sacks and three INTs. The Virginia schools, USC, Ohio State, Notre Dame, LSU and Alabama, among others, have offered.
20. Thomas Tyner, RB
6 of 25Tyner hails from Oregon and is committed to the Ducks. He's 6'0" and weighs over 200 pounds.
Tyner can be a big back with power and run strength but also shows good foot quickness, speed, agility, vision and solid burst.
19. Robert Foster, WR
7 of 25Rivals lists Foster at 6'3", 177 pounds. He's an explosive WR from Pennsylvania with great release quickness, speed and separation quickness.
18. Derrick Henry, RB
8 of 25Henry is a huge 6'3", 235-pound RB who can flat-out get it done. He's muscular, powerful, strong and has speed to get to the edges and upfield.
He's been very productive, as he topped 2,600 yards and 33 TDs last year. He's headed to Georgia.
17. Rcky Seals-Jones, WR
9 of 25R S-J is a 6'5", 220-pound stud from Texas. He plays QB and DB right now, but many expect him to play WR or grow into a great pass-catching TE in college.
Which will be Texas, as Seals-Jones committed to the Longhorns early last month.
16. Ty Isaac, RB
10 of 25Isaac is a big back with great instincts, speed and playmaking ability. He's 6'3" and 215 pounds, can turn the corner on a defense and has good hands to stay on the field for three downs.
He could move up on this list soon.
15. Kendall Fuller, DB
11 of 25Fuller can play WR in college, but this guy has a chance to be an even better CB. He's 6'0" and 185 pounds and has good length, great speed and fluid movement skills.
He may be a bit raw a CB, so he'll need to refine his skills full time in college. But with college coaching and development, Fuller could be an elite college CB.
14. Tyrone Swoopes, QB
12 of 25Swoopes could be the best player in Texas this year and may be the next Vince Young. He's a 6'5", 220-pound dual-threat QB with excellent natural athletic ability, a solid arm and good speed.
Committed to Texas.
13. Jalin Marshall, QB/RB
13 of 25Marshall is an Ohio native that stands 6'1" and 190 pounds. He's one of the top play-makers in the nation and right now. I view him more as an RB.
He's committed to Ohio State, where in Urban Meyer's spread option offense he could play QB. But I think he's best-suited for RB.
12. Vernon Hargreaves III, CB
14 of 255'10" and 180 pounds, Hargreaves is a stud CB prospect from Florida. He's the son of a coach, plays with a heady demeanor and has great technique.
Hargreaves shows excellent foot quickness, a smooth backpedal, quick transition and mirror ability. Offers include Florida, Miami, Florida State, Michigan, USC, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Ohio State.
11. Shane Morris, QB
15 of 25Morris is a lefty that checks in on the hoof at about 6'3" and 190 pounds. He shows a strong arm, sets up well and has some quickness in his climbs.
He's an above-average athlete who can make some plays with his feet, attack the edges on sprints and roll to make throws and buy time for his WRs to get open.
Committed to Michigan.
10. Adam Breneman, TE
16 of 25Breneman should be a stud TE in college. He's basically a 6'5", 220-pound WR who kills it in the seams. He shows a large catch radius, versatility to mask as a joker for an offense, soft hands and good release quickness off the line.
9. Cameron Burrows, DB
17 of 25Burrows is a big and stout DB who could play CB in college. The Ohio native is a 6'1" and nearly 200-pound DB with great hips and play speed.
He had nearly 50 tackles and totaled 12 passes broken up last year. Burrows is headed for Ohio State.
8. Max Browne, QB
18 of 25Browne has a lot of buzz surrounding him right now. The Washington native is a big QB at 6'5" and weighs over 200-pounds.
He shows solid field vision, a quick release, arm strength to attack deep and accuracy to put the ball on target. Offers include Washington, USC, Alabama, Oklahoma and Auburn.
7. Michael Hutchings, LB
19 of 25I'm pretty high on Hutchings, as I love rangy defensive players. He's a 6'2", 210-pound LB with great athleticism, play speed, range and instincts.
Hutchings flashes the potential to be an excellent blitzer and a three-down defender. He has offers from USC, Cal, Miami, Oregon, Notre Dame and Michigan.
6. Su'a Cravens, DB
20 of 25Cravens is one of the top defenders in the nation. He's 6'1" and 200 pounds and hails from SoCal. Athletic and rangy, don't think Cravens is a safety who doesn't like sniffing in the box.
That's evident by the 11 sacks he had last year. Cravens has offers from USC, Florida, Clemson, Cal, Alabama, Stanford, Notre Dame and Oho State, among others.
5. Kenny Bigelow, DL
21 of 25Bigelow is a 6'3", 280-pound DL who can play DT or DE. He's a sheer playmaker in the trenches, showing a great burst at the snap, quickness to get around blockers and some strength to walk OLs back.
He also has great range in pursuit and can stay in the opposing backfield all night long. Bigelow is pledged to USC.
4. Antonio Conner, DB
22 of 25I have Conner in my top five right now, as I really dig him as a safety prospect. He's the top player in Mississippi this year and stands 6'2" and 200 pounds.
He's in the class of a Karlos Williams, Shaq Thompson and Landon Collins. Conner has great playmaking ability, speed, range and instincts.
3. Laremy Tunsil, OT
23 of 25Tunsil is a 6'6", 275-pound OL who can play LT for an OL unit. He shows easy and fluid movement in his sets, slides well, has good foot quickness to recover and adjust and can wash rushers away on the flanks.
I think he's the top OT prospect in the country and he has offers from Alabama, Florida, LSU, Florida State, Miami and USC, among others.
2. Reuben Foster, LB
24 of 25Foster is the top LB in the country and he's one of the best prospects to come out of Georgia in years. He can flat-out play with the best of 'em, as he's a 6'2", 240-pound 'backer with special potential.
Foster can play pretty much any LB spot in either a 4-3 or 3-4; has tremendous instincts, ball-location skills; speed and quickness to get to the ball; strength to shed blocks; range; and is a sure tackler.
Committed to Alabama.
1. Robert Nkemdiche, DL
25 of 25I have Nkemdiche as any top prospect and he likely will be the consensus top prospect on many other lists as well. He's a 6'5", 270-pound beast of a DL who can play DE or DT.
Nkemdiche can man the strong side, due to great play strength and power, but he's also an excellent pass-rusher who possesses a quick first step, athleticism and a burst to finish on passers.
He has offers from basically any major power you can think of.
