Ohio State Football: A Look Inside Buckeyes Football with QB Cardale Jones

Michael ChungMar 3, 2012

QB Cardale Jones was actually recruited in the 2011 Ohio State recruiting class with Braxton Miller but went to prep school for a year. He showed tremendous leadership and loyalty during the Tressel-tattoo scandal, not wavering in his commitment and exhorting fellow commits to stay loyal and not get dissuaded from OSU by outside pressure.

I asked him a few questions to get to know him better.

 1. What is your relationship with Braxton Miller Like?

CJ: We have a pretty good relationship. Obviously, both being quarterbacks there is a little tension sometimes, but we are both committed to the team and want what is best for it.

 2. What is the difference between Tom Herman and Jim Bollman?

CJ: I never got to play for Bols, so I never got to know him. I am getting to know Tom, and one thing is for sure, we will pass the ball a lot more.

 3. What is the difference between Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer?

CJ: They are both two unbelievable coaches. I would say coach Meyer is a little more vocal and gets his point across more.

 4. Tressel said you would redshirt, Urban Meyer says no one will redshirt, and Braxton Miller has three more years of eligibility; how does this affect you?

CJ: There are new coaches and new looks, and everyone competes. I am going to work hard to try to get some playing time.

 5. Are you open to playing another position?

CJ: Yes, if it will help the team win, and my desire is for the team to have success, I would switch positions. We have unbelievable coaches here, and I am confident that wherever I would switch to I could succeed because of the talent we have here on the coaching staff. My desire is to play quarterback, but if I had to switch, I probably would switch to receiver.

 6. Do you think you were better suited to the pro-style offense that Tressel ran or Urban Meyer’s spread offense?

CJ: In high school I played both in a pro-style offense as well as a spread. I feel very comfortable in both.

 7. Are you helping to recruit any guys for the 2013 class?

CJ: I am not too active outside of the guys from Cleveland Glenville. Chris Worley from Glenville came down on junior day, and I believe they offered him a scholarship. He is a linebacker at Cleveland Glenville, but they want him to play safety if he commits to Ohio State.

 8. We have heard a lot about Mickey Marotti’s workouts, what do the guys who were on the team last year say?

CJ: They are tough and completely different, not bad or good, better or worse than last year, just different. I will say this for the team as a whole: We will be well prepared for next season. Ever since Jan. 3, we have been focused and preparing, and I believe we will be ready to have a great season next year and years to come.

9. Is there anything else you want to say to Buckeye nation?

CJ: Be prepared! It will be a wild season. Expect a lot from us because we are working so hard day in and day out, not just in football but also in academics. We will be ready!

Thanks Cardale for taking time to let Buckeye Nation get to know you better.
