50 College Football Prop Bets We'd Take Right Now

Joe PenkalaJun 7, 2018

Seems like every year there are some interesting prop bets that float around and grab the attention of college football fans around the nation.

While the season is still months away, people are already sizing things up and wondering how the year will play out for their respective programs.

Here is a look at 50 things you should jump all over if someone is foolish enough to give you the chance.

Lou Holtz and Mark May Argue in the First Week

1 of 50

Seems like a rite of passage, but every year and every week during the college football season, Mark May and Lou Holtz go at it on air.

The on-air spats are so frequent that you can look for the two to go at it in the first week of the season.

Erin Andrews Being the Most Attractive Sideline Reporter in Week 1

2 of 50

While Jenn Brown does provide some competition, Erin Andrews is still the queen of the sidelines and is a fan favorite around the nation.

While a new season always brings change, fans' feelings toward the ESPN reporter do not change.

The Oregon Duck Doing a Lot of Push-Ups

3 of 50

While the Oregon offense may have lost Darron Thomas and LaMichael James, Chip Kelly's offense has shown it can plug in players and perform at the same level. Look for the Ducks mascot to be putting out a lot of push-ups as he matches the Ducks point for point.

USC Being Mentioned More Than 10 Times on "College GameDay" in Week 1

4 of 50

Who does ESPN love more than SEC teams?

USC.

Now that the Trojans have cleared their period of not being bowl-eligible, the four-letter network will be pushing them hard, and it will show in the first week of the season.

LSU vs. Alabama Will Not Be Labled the "Game of the Century"

5 of 50

After the way the national title game went, LSU and Alabama will match up in early November, but the hype will not follow this year.

While it should be a great game, it will not come even close to the hype that both games got last year.

Rich Rodriguez Will Have a Better Record at Arizona Than at Michigan in Year 1

6 of 50

While the schedule is brutal, Rich Rodriguez is taking over at Arizona and should have more success in his first year there than he did at Michigan.

In his first year as Wolverines coach, Rodriguez won three games—a total he should clear in Arizona.

Todd Graham Will Stay at Arizona State

7 of 50

For three straight years, Todd Graham has opened the year as a team's new head coach.

With Arizona State being his third stop, look for it to be his last for a while, as another team would not be foolish enough to hire him away from them.

Mark Richt Earns a Contract Extension

8 of 50

Last year Mark Richt was under fire at Georgia after a 0-2 start.

But after a 10-game winning streak things have gotten more comfortable for Richt. Look for him to get even more breathing room with a strong season and a contract extension.

One Early Celebration Penalty in the First Week

9 of 50

Last year, players did a good job of avoiding a penalty before entering the end zone for a celebration.

This year, after a long offseason, someone around the nation will get caught up in the moment and will earn himself a penalty that costs his team six points.

Miami Gets Hit Hard with an Investigation

10 of 50

The clock is ticking for Miami. While no penalties have been dished out yet, it is only a matter of time before the NCAA digs in and brings to light all the actions that have occurred at Miami.

De'Anthony Thomas Leads the Nation in All-Purpose Yards

11 of 50

Last year, De'Anthony Thomas took the college football world by storm, and his talents were on display at the Rose Bowl. Between his abilities in the passing game, running game and kick returns, look for Thomas to lead the nation in total yards this year.

Boise State Is a Non-Factor in the BCS

12 of 50

While Boise State is not going to completely fall off the map, the loss of Kellen Moore is huge and will cause the Broncos to take a step back.

With the loss, Boise State will likely drop a couple games, which will take them out of BCS contention.

Matt Barkley Is This Year's Andrew Luck

13 of 50

Last year, there was a ton of hype around Andrew Luck and his eventual departure to the NFL.

When Matt Barkley announced he would return, he replaced Luck as the most talked-about player this year.

Michigan vs. Michigan State Will Be the Big Ten Game of the Year

14 of 50

Michigan State has quietly become a consistent contender in the Big Ten, and with a strong 2011, Michigan joined them as one of the top teams.

With the decline of Wisconsin and the postseason ban on Ohio State, this year's rivalry matchup in Michigan should be the conference's game of the year.

TCU Does Better in the Big 12 Than West Virginia

15 of 50

One of the challenges West Virginia faces in its new conference is the fact that away games in conference play will be quite a trip for them. Due to the travel,—and lack of it, in TCU's case—look for the Horned Frogs to adjust and have more success this year than the Mountaineers.

The Hype for Notre Dame Is over by Week 4

16 of 50

Every season, Notre Dame enters with a ton of hype and belief that this will be the year they break through.

While games against Navy and Purdue are very winnable, back-to-back games against Michigan and Michigan State will put the Irish at .500 and out of the national eye.

Michigan Gets Thumped by Alabama

17 of 50

Last year, Michigan turned some heads as Brady Hoke led the Wolverines to a Sugar Bowl win in his first year.

This year, they start the year on the road against Alabama. While the Wolverines have grown, look for the Tide to expose Robinson and win this game handily.

The Under on 1.5 Teams Being Undefeated at the End of the Regular Season

18 of 50

Last year, LSU took their undefeated record into the BCS National Championship and lost to Alabama, a team they had previously beaten.

This year, look for only one team to be undefeated once again and continue with the controversy of instituting a playoff.

This Year's Game for the Ages Is USC vs. Oregon

19 of 50

Last year, the Game of the Century was the matchup between LSU and Alabama.

This year, Oregon and USC will both start the year inside the Top 10, and based on their schedules, both teams should likely be undefeated and could be matching up as No.1 vs. No. 2.

Texas Finishes Fifth or Worse in the Big 12

20 of 50

The problem that Texas is about to face is of their own doing.

Through the creation of their own network, changes in various conferences went into motion, and it has resulted with Texas being down the depth chart this year.

With Oklahoma, West Virginia, Kansas State and TCU in front of them, Texas will likely finish fifth.

Wisconsin Does Not Return to the Rose Bowl

21 of 50

The Badgers can look at the upcoming season in two ways.

The good news is, Montee Ball is back and should offer the Badgers an awesome running game.

The bad news is, Russell Wilson is gone, and the run of two straight Rose Bowls may come to an end.

Clemson Beats Virginia Tech for a Third Straight Time...

22 of 50

Last year, Clemson was a thorn in the side for the Hokies and ended up beating them not once but twice.

This year, the Tigers host the Hokies and will have a great chance behind their explosive offense. They will beat Virginia Tech for a third straight time.

...And Then a Fourth in the ACC Title Game

23 of 50

With the strength of both the Clemson and Virginia Tech rosters, both of these teams could end up back in the ACC title game. If they both play up to their potential, the Tigers could look to make it a fourth straight win over the Hokies, which would be extremely impressive.

Oregon Will Wear a New Uniform

24 of 50

Seems like every year, Oregon pushes the envelope and has Nike develop a new uniform that they wear during the season.

Last year, the Ducks sported new uniforms in games against LSU, Cal and Wisconsin, so thinking it will happen again this year is not much of a stretch.

Matt Barkley Throws More TDs Than Three Pac-12 Schools Combined

25 of 50

In the wide-open Pac-12, Matt Barkley has returned for his senior season and looks to be the best quarterback in the nation.

Barkley is very proficient, and USC is not afraid to let him air it out. With teams like Colorado, Oregon State and Arizona in the conference, Barkley will throw more touchdowns than three teams combined.

Arkansas vs. Alabama Will Be the SEC's Game of the Year

26 of 50

Last year, Arkansas had the task of going on the road to take on both Alabama and LSU. This year, the tide has turned, and with Tyler Wilson and Knile Davis back, the Hogs look to take advantage of having both teams at home.

Ohio State Wins the Leaders Division in 2012

27 of 50

Everywhere Urban Meyer has gone, success has followed.

This year, Meyer has come out of retirement and is the new head man at Ohio State. Despite the one-year ban on postseason play, look for Meyer to lead the Buckeyes to a division title, which will allow the second-place team to go to the Big Ten title game.

Texas A&M Blows Three Halftime Leads

28 of 50

Last year, the Aggies watched lead after lead slip away and turn into losses.

This year, Texas A&M enters the SEC, which will be even more unforgiving. With the tougher competition, look for the Aggies to blow three leads that they take into the half.

Missouri Wishes They Were Back in the Big 12, Wins Seven Games or Less

29 of 50

Texas A&M is not the only team heading to the SEC—Missouri is also making the move this year.

While the Aggies have the talent to compete right away, Missouri does not. Look for the Tigers to win, at most, seven games this year.

"GameDay" Covers an Oregon Game

30 of 50

For the past few years now, Oregon has been receiving a lot of attention from ESPN and their popular morning show, College GameDay. While the home schedule is not too intriguing, look for the show to make an appearance when the Ducks play the Trojans.

Two Service Academies Make a Bowl Game

31 of 50

Two years ago, all three service academies made it to bowl season.

Last year, only Air Force was able to return. With a new season on the way, look for both Air Force and Navy to appear in college football's postseason.

NCAA Investigation Begins on a New Team

32 of 50

Seems like every year there is an issue that pops up for a new team around the national landscape.

With the amount of information out there and people digging around, look for an issue to come to light for another team during the 2012 season.

Marcus Lattimore Rushes for Less Yards This Year Than in His Freshman Season

33 of 50

In Marcus Lattimore's freshman season, the running back rushed for 1,197 yards and was amazing. Last year he got off to a great start, but a knee injury sidelined him and didn't allow him to return.

While Lattimore will be back for the 2012 season, look for his production to be down, as he still will need time to get back into form.

Danny O'Brien Ends Up at Vanderbilt

34 of 50

Last year, Danny O'Brien looked like a different player compared to the 2010 season.

Currently, O'Brien has requested a transfer, and while it may take time to get things worked out, look for him to be in a Vanderbilt jersey this fall.

Florida Atlantic Finishes the Year with Zero Wins

35 of 50

Florida Atlantic looked awful last year. With the lack of talent and depth this team has, look for the Owls to go through the entire season without winning a single game.

Duke Wins Less Games Than Their Three-Game Winning Streak from 2011

36 of 50

Last year, Duke put together a three-game winning streak early in the year that turned some heads.

Things went back to normal, though, as they lost every remaining game.

This year, Duke is still in the basement of the ACC. Look for them to win less total games than their three-game winning streak in 2011.

Take the Field Versus the SEC for the Eventual National Champion

37 of 50

The SEC has continued to dominate in terms of racking up National Championships.

This year, take the field, as there are plenty of strong teams that could compete with the SEC. Whether it be Oregon, Oklahoma, USC, West Virginia, Clemson or others, the field looks strong this year.

Under on .5 Coaches Having Sideline Medical Issues

38 of 50

Seems like the past couple years coaches have been having some issues on the sideline. Two years ago, Mark Dantonio had a heart attack that led to him being hospitalized, and last year Jerry Kill had a seizure on the sidelines.

Hopefully things get back to normal this year, and no coaches find themselves in harm's way.

Over/Under 11.5: Number of Unifrom Combinations Oregon Wears

39 of 50

Oregon always seems to find a way to mix and match the helmet-jersey-pant combination they wear every game. With 12 regular-season games this year, bank on the idea that Oregon will not repeat any combination you see.

Nike Does Another Line of Pro Combat Jerseys

40 of 50

Speaking of jerseys, for the past couple of years, Nike has been pushing the envelope with their new line of Pro Combat uniforms.

This year will be no different. Look for Nike to push the technology and development even further in 2012.

Brad Wing Will Not Have a Celebration Penalty

41 of 50

Last year, LSU pulled off a beautiful fake punt that was taken the distance for a touchdown.

Unfortunately for Brad Wing, LSU's punter, he forgot about the early celebration penalty and was flagged before entering the end zone.

You can bet he will not repeat that mistake if given the chance.

Over/Under: Houston Winning Half as Many Games as Last Year

42 of 50

Last year was a magical season for Houston that came one win short of being even better. After going 12-0, Houston lost in the Conference USA title game, but won their bowl game against Penn State.

With the loss of Case Keenum, look for the Cougars to struggle and win less than half as many games in 2012.

2.5 Heisman Candidates from the SEC

43 of 50

Seems like every year the SEC is well-represented in the Heisman race.

This year, the conference has players like Tyler Wilson, Marcus Lattimore, Aaron Murray and more, so take the over if you can work someone down to 2.5.

No Non-BCS School Will Earn a Spot in a BCS Game

44 of 50

Seems like every season a non-automatic qualifier comes from out of nowhere and finds a way to get into a BCS bowl game. Last year, it appeared that Houston would fill that roll, but the Cougars fell short.

Look for the same to happen again this year, as all BCS slots will be filled by BCS schools.

Over/Under 3.5 Coaches Being Fired Before Bowl Games

45 of 50

Seems like there was a lot of movement after the bowls with coaches heading in different directions.

Every year we see some sort of turnover at the coaching position, so look for at least four coaches to be handed their walking papers before the bowl season.

The Best Player in the Nation Will Not Win a Conference Title

46 of 50

By the end of the 2012 season, it will be clear who the best player in the nation is. Regardless of that tag, look for that player and his team to fall short of being crowned the national champions.

LSU Finishes Third in the SEC West

47 of 50

Last year, LSU ran the table, going undefeated in the regular season and also winning the SEC title game.

This year, Alabama and Arkansas return some outstanding depth and appear to be on their way to putting the Tigers in third place.

Texas Continues with Its Two-Headed Monster at Quarterback

48 of 50

Last year, Texas rolled with two quarterbacks: Case McCoy and David Ash.

Since neither has truly separated from the pack, Texas will go with both again in 2012.

Kicking from the 35 Has Little Impact

49 of 50

For the upcoming season, the NCAA has decided to move the kick up to the 35-yard line in an effort to minimize injuries during these plays. While the extra yards will help, players will still be taking the ball out of the end zone in an effort to make plays.

The BCS System Will Still Suck

50 of 50

Based on how things stand right now, college football fans are still left with an empty feeling since the sport is without a playoff system.

While there is talk about the BCS adding an additional game and creating a four-team playoff, it is only a band-aid on a much bigger wound right now.
