10 College Football Spring Games We're Most Interested in Watching
Now that the college football season and national signing day have come and gone, it may seem like there is not a lot going on in the college football world.
But as it turns out, we are less than six weeks away from the start of spring football.
Some universities have spring games that attract numbers almost unimaginable for what is merely a scrimmage.
This year there are some big-name schools that are certain to have a lot on the line during their spring games.
Here are 10 spring games we are most interested in watching in 2012.
10. Arizona Wildcats
1 of 10The Wildcats are coming off a disappointing 4-8 season and will have to find a way to replace quarterback Nick Foles, who has moved on to the NFL.
What better way to do that than with a new coach?
Arizona recently hired Rich Rodriguez, and he will get his first chance to show Wildcats fans his spread offense in the spring game.
Whether or not Arizona will be able to become the football power Rodriguez turned West Virginia into remains to be seen, but fans will get their first glimpse at the spring game.
9. LSU Tigers
2 of 10The LSU Tigers are certainly anxious to get the bitter taste out of their mouths from the national championship defeat against Alabama.
They will get that chance on March 31 in their annual spring game.
While there is a lot of talent on the field, the crowd that turns out in Baton Rouge is far less than many of the other SEC powerhouses.
This year, fans may turn out to see if the Tigers have worked a little on that passing game they were unable to get going against Alabama.
8. Kansas Jayhawks
3 of 10It didn't take long for Charlie Weis to land another head coaching job after a disappointing ending to his tenure at Notre Dame.
Kansas has always been known as a basketball school, and Weis has a chance to change that if he can bring some success to the football program.
The hiring of Weis has seemed to get the Kansas faithful a little excited for the football season, and what better way to show that excitement than the spring game?
It will be interesting to see if Weis can bring his high-flying offensive attack to Lawrence.
7. Texas A&M Aggies
4 of 10Not only does Texas A&M have a new head coach in Kevin Sumlin, but it will also be entering a new conference as it moves from the Big 12 to the SEC.
There is certainly reason to be excited in College Station.
After a disappointing season in 2011, the Aggies are looking to make some noise in their new conference, and this will be the first chance for fans to get a look at their new head coach.
If Sumlin can put points on the board like he did at Houston with Case Keenum, this will be one of the more exciting spring games of them all.
6. Michigan Wolverines
5 of 10There are few college football programs that have as large a fanbase as the Michigan Wolverines.
In 2011, the university returned to the national stage when it won 11 games and played in the Sugar Bowl.
This season, the expectations will be even higher, and Michigan fans believe the Wolverines have a shot to play for the national championship if they can beat Alabama on September 1.
Denard Robinson and the rest of the Michigan offense will be on full display at the spring game on April 14.
5. USC Trojans
6 of 10Matt Barkley decided to come back for his senior season, and the Trojan faithful could not be happier.
USC fans have not been this excited since the days of Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart. The talent on this year's team may be even better.
The crowd at the 2011 spring game was not great, but this year may be a little different considering the preseason ban has been lifted and USC may be the best team in the country.
The high-flying offensive attack of the Trojans will be on full display on April 14 in this spring game.
4. Georgia Bulldogs
7 of 10Not many teams have higher expectations entering the 2012 season than the Georgia Bulldogs.
They return so much talent on offense, including junior Aaron Murray, who is one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
The spring game in Georgia is also a big deal, and the Bulldogs have a relatively easy SEC schedule, meaning they could run the table and play for the national championship.
All that excitement will take full effect on April 14 in the annual G-Day Game with nearly 50,000 fans expected to show up.
3. Penn State Nittany Lions
8 of 10The Bill O'Brien era at Penn State has already officially begun, but the first action on the field will be at the spring game on April 21.
Penn State has been through so much, and its fans are extremely loyal, making this one of the more intriguing spring games to see.
The Nittany Lions usually draw close to 60,000 for the spring game, and this season will be no different, even with what has happened over the past six months.
This is the start of a new era for Penn State football, and its fans will be there to celebrate it.
2. Alabama Crimson Tide
9 of 10The Crimson Tide are not only the defending national champs, but they also put on quite a show when it comes to the spring game.
Alabama does it better than anybody else during its spring game. The Tide have averaged well over 90,000 fans over the past two seasons for what they call the A-Day Game.
There is so much talent coming back, and Alabama will likely be in the Top Three to start off the season.
Odds are the crowd here will be near capacity to watch the best football program in the country.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes
10 of 10The spring game is always a big deal in Columbus, and this year will be bigger than ever because of the arrival of Urban Meyer.
Even though Ohio State will be going through a postseason ban, that will not matter to these fans, as they will get their first chance to see the new-look Buckeyes in action.
Among the many questions facing the team is the development of quarterback Braxton Miller and the young group of receivers.
The Scarlet and Gray Game usually attracts around 65,000 fans, and it is almost a certainty that there will be even more fans here to see Urban in action.
