2012 NFL Draft: New York Giants' Best-Case Scenario in Each Round

Sam R. QuinnJun 5, 2018

The Super Bowl champion New York Giants will look to improve upon the team in hopes of a repeat next season during the rapidly approaching 2012 NFL draft on April 26th. Here are the best-case scenario draft picks for each round.

Round 1: Vontaze Burfict, Linebacker, Arizona State University

Vontaze Burfict is an absolute beast. And I mean this guy is out of his mind. Check out this video of Burfict losing it on the sideline. He's a great tackler and a feared pass rusher, so hopefully the other teams pass up on him, allowing him to fall to the Giants.

Round 2: Coby Fleener, Tight End, Stanford

The Giants have big problems at the tight end spot after Jake Ballard and Travis Beckum both suffered torn ACLs in the Super Bowl. Fleener played in a pro set at Stanford with a pretty good quarterback, so he should fit right in with the Giants offensive set.

Round 3: Ryan Broyles, Wide Receiver, Oklahoma

In most mock drafts, Broyles is situated somewhere near the latter end of the third round. If he's still on the board Jerry Reese could grab him, as he typically goes for the best player on the board, regardless of position. Broyles tore his ACL in November which means some teams may be scared off, leaving the door open for the Giants. They may lose Mario Manningham in the offseason so it wouldn't hurt to add a young talent to the receiving corps.

Round 4: Brandon Taylor, Strong Safety, LSU

Extra help in the secondary is always welcome as the Giants have been plagued by injuries to defensive backfield personnel in recent memory. He's not the "Honey Badger," but it can't be a bad thing that they played together. He's a bit undersized, but makes up for it with his speed.

Round 5: Cliff Harris, Cornerback, Oregon

Okay, so this one may be a bad idea, but there's no denying Cliff Harris is crazy athletic. Despite his off-field conduct, he was one of the most highly touted defensive backs early in the season. Tom Coughlin is no pushover, so he'll be able to whip Harris into shape.

Round 6: Vick Ballard, Running Back, Mississippi State

Most draft experts have Ballard getting taken a few picks before the Giants in the sixth round but if he's still around, the Giants need to scoop him up. Brandon Jacobs may not be around next year so the Giants need someone to help Ahmad Bradshaw shoulder the load.

Round 7: Antoine McClain, Offensive Guard, Clemson

With the last pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Giants would be best to select an offensive lineman. Their line, which has been a mainstay for years, is growing old. Bringing in a young, 6'5", 330-pound behemoth would help the cause of protecting Eli Manning
