Norwich City FC: 5 Reasons the Canaries Will Get Something at Swansea

James KentJun 5, 2018

Both Norwich City and Swansea have adapted well to life in the Premier League. The two clubs will be pleased to be in mid-table, rather than the bottom of the table at this stage in the season.

The Canaries will want to get the bad taste out of their mouth from their last league away trip, a 3-0 defeat at Sunderland.

However, Norwich have bounced back since then with an important 2-0 win at Carrow Road in last week's action.

So with that all in mind, I have put together this slideshow to preview the game.

Canaries Will Want to Stay Ahead of the Swans in the League Table

Norwich City's top priority this season may be to stay in the Premier League, however, a secondary goal will be to finish the highest of the newly promoted teams.

At the moment, the Canaries are 11 points ahead of QPR, but only two points ahead of Swansea. Therefore, Paul Lambert will be keen to ensure that his side take at least a point back from Wales.

Doing so guarantees that Norwich will stay ahead of Swansea. Lambert will also be determined to assure his team remain in the top-half of the league table. The Norwich City manager may be saying he is only interested in survival, but he will not want to relinquish his team's place in the top-half, now that they are there.

Swansea Do Not Win Every Home Game

Let's be clear about what Swansea's home record is—it is a hard place to go and win. However, six teams have been to the Liberty Stadium and drawn this season—only one has won.

Norwich City supporters should not for one second think that defeat is a forgone conclusion on Saturday. The Canaries enjoy playing their football away from home and Paul Lambert has enjoyed an impressive record on the road, since entering the building as Norwich City manager.

The East Anglian side's away record reads three wins and four draws in the league this season.

Always Back This Norwich City Team to Score

3 of 5

One thing will know about Paul Lambert's Canaries is they love to attack and score goals. So far this season Norwich have scored 34 goals in the league. In comparison, Swansea have found the net 26 times.

The biggest goal-scoring threats for Norwich come from Steve Morison and Grant Holt. Morison is the club's top league scorer with eight goals, closely followed by Holt wit seven goals. Other players with an eye for goal this season include Anthony Pilkington, Simeon Jackson and Andrew Surman.

Swansea's biggest threats are likely to come from seven-goal Scott Sinclair and eight-goal Danny Graham.

Norwich City will have their work cut out to score at Swansea, because they will be up against the league's second tightest defense.

Success Earlier in the Season and Point to Prove at Swansea

4 of 5

Norwich City won the match up between the two sides in October by a 3-1 scoreline at Carrow Road. The Canaries will be able to use this as inspiration for the game this weekend.

However, there is also the issue of a revenge mission from last season. When Norwich traveled to Swansea in April 2011, they were beaten 3-0.

The Swans celebrated the victory as if they had just won the league. This angered a lot of Norwich City fans, so there is a feeling in Norfolk that this is an opportunity to prove a point.

Anthony Pilkington and Andrew Surman to Open Up Swansea

5 of 5

Anthony Pilkington has recaptured his form from earlier in the season and is proving what a good Premier League player he can be. The former Huddersfield man has shown this season that he has the ability to create and score goals. If Norwich get a positive result at the weekend, Pilkington is likely to be heavily involved.

Andrew Surman may have taken a while to establish himself in the team this season. But he has proved himself and is now one of the first names on the team sheet. The former Wolves man has impressed lately with his movement and goals. Like Pilkington, Surman is likely to play another important role in the game against Swansea.
