NBA All-Star Roster 2012: 10 Players Who'll Have to Wait until Next Year
With the reserves set to be announced tonight for the 2012 NBA All-Star Game, some tough decisions are going to have to be made.
There are several players worthy of an All-Star Game selection this year, especially in the Western Conference, but there will be a lot of deserving guys left off the rosters.
With that being said, let's take a look at some guys that will likely have to wait until next year.
Joe Johnson
1 of 10Johnson is having a great season and has been a big reason why the Hawks have remained competitive after the loss of Al Horford.
He's been to the All-Star Game the past few years and should go this season, but teammate Josh Smith is also deserving and should be selected for the first time.
It may be hard to see two Atlanta Hawks in the All-Star Game with some veterans in the league that will probably be selected even though they are less deserving then a guy like Johnson.
DeAndre Jordan
2 of 10There will be All-Star games in the future for Jordan, but not this season.
For sure he's exciting and a dominant center defensively, but there are a couple of guys in Macon Gortat and Marc Gasol who deserve the backup center spot more than Jordan.
Marcin Gortat
3 of 10Gortat's numbers are worthy of being selected, but the Suns' poor record will likely keep him out of the game this year.
Kyle Lowry
4 of 10Without a doubt Lowry should be an All-Star, but there are too many great guards currently in the West.
Guys like Russell Westbrook, Steve Nash and Monta Ellis are all likely to make the team, meaning Lowry gets squeezed out by the numbers this season.
Danny Granger
5 of 10The Indiana Pacers deserve to have an All-Star, maybe two, but they could be shut out this season at the end of the day.
There are plenty of veterans that include Amar'e Stoudemire, Paul Pierce and maybe even Kevin Garnett that Granger should be selected over, but he won't be.
The last forward spot could come down to Granger and a guy like Andre Iguodala, and the Sixers are definitely worthy of having an All-Star of their own.
Granger's best chance could be as an injury replacement if a guy like Carmelo Anthony can't compete.
Roy Hibbert
6 of 10I've made my case in the past that Hibbert deserves the backup center spot that usually goes to Al Horford, but there's a good chance that he loses out in name recognition to a guy like Tyson Chandler, who's having a pretty good season himself.
Rudy Gay
7 of 10It will be a shame if Gay doesn't make the team, but chances are that he won't.
The Western Conference is loaded with All-Star type talent in the frontcourt.
Blake Griffin and Kevin Durant are starters and Kevin Love and LaMarcus Aldridge should be locks as reserves.
For Gay it could come down to getting selected over perennial All-Stars like Pau Gasol and Dirk Nowitzki.
Brandon Jennings
8 of 10Jennings is having a better season then both Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen, who both will likely be selected as reserves.
New Jersey's Deron Williams will also make the team, so basically Jennings has no chance.
Ricky Rubio
9 of 10Plenty of people would like to see what Rubio could do in an All-Star game setting, but he has to get in line behind Lowry.
Again, too many good guards in the West and if Lowry isn't going to make it, neither is Rubio.
His time will come though.
James Harden
10 of 10Coming off the bench, Harden's numbers should have him in the conversation, but that conversation will be a quick one this year.
He will have his time, but it's not now.
