Peyton Manning: QB Would Be Perfect Fit with Miami Dolphins

Jeff ChaseJun 7, 2018

The Miami Dolphins have some work to do this offseason, but new head coach Joe Philbin can get his team moving in the right direction a lot quicker than many would think by getting Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning—if he is released of course.

According to Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel, an NFL source informed him that the four-time league MVP has put together a short list of teams for his pending future, and the Dolphins happen to be one of those squads.

While he can't make any official word on the Manning situation, Michael Smith of Pro Football Talk went into the Dolphins ownership's feelings on their future at quarterback:

Perhaps the best news for Manning is that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has insisted the team will get better at quarterback and that he’ll pay whatever it takes.

With the team possibly facing a quarterback situation, with both Chad Henne and Matt Moore not looking like options for the future of this franchise, inserting a player like Manning would get this team moving into the right direction without having to do much other work.

Philbin has had a ton of success over the last few seasons with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, as well as his backup in Matt Flynn. It would be interesting to see if he would be a nice fit to Manning's puzzle, or if the two would have a different idea of how to run this offense.

The team has a talented offensive line, as well as two very good offensive threats in wide receiver Brandon Marshall and running back Reggie Bush.

The team acquired Bush last season from the New Orleans Saints after many dismal seasons in the running game. To their luck, he actually had his first 1,000-yard season. He also had six touchdowns, but he could really become an even bigger threat out of the backfield with Manning under center.

Marshall is also coming off an incredible year, having 1,214 yards with six touchdown receptions. That was with a quarterback combination of Moore and Henne, so imagine what he could do with No. 18 under center. Yeah, it could be pretty ridiculous.

The Dolphins finished this past season with a 6-10 record, but they had some promising performances with wins over the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs, as well as close games with New England Patriots and New York Giants—the two teams in this year's Super Bowl.

It will remain to be seen what happens with Manning and his situation with the Colts, but for now no situation seems more promising than the potential that the Dolphins pose for the future of No. 18.
