Coolest Home Jerseys in the NBA
The NBA's players are known for their obsession with fashion off the court, but some teams have some fairly interesting on-the-court wardrobes as well.
Professional basketball jerseys are liable to become mundane, especially when playing at home, as a simple two-color pattern just isn't very exhilarating or indulging enough to stare continuously at.
There are a number of organizations that gone to lengths to reverse this stereotype, though, finding a way to render the usually dull, refreshingly innovative.
Orlando Magic
1 of 14The Orlando Magic aren't playing especially well at home, but perhaps Dwight Howard and company can take solace in knowing that they don one of the more interesting home jerseys.
You have to appreciate the pinstripes.
They are unique and distinguishable, and put the average, run-of-the-mill uniforms to shame.
It's unfortunate that we cannot say the same for the Magic's on-court performances as of late.
Los Angeles Lakers (Part I)
2 of 14The Los Angeles Lakers aren't prone to following the general crowd, and their home uniforms show it.
What makes the Lakers' home jersey so awesome? Is it the clear genocide of yellow taking place?
Is it because they found a way to mix purple and yellow without being laughed at? Or is it the team's ability to blend in with school buses just before game time?
It's none of the above. What makes Los Angeles' home uniforms great is that they often get to wear them on the road.
It has the ability to create the allusion that Kobe Bryant and company are playing fewer away games than they actually are.
That's badass.
Miami Heat (Part I)
3 of 14Say what you will about the star-studded trio, but when it comes to home uniforms, the Miami Heat are latent with the same luxury they have on offense: Options.
It may just be a scheme of mostly white and red, but the sizzling flame coming off of the "T" gives it swag.
The abnormality of the letter "A" should not go unnoticed, either.
But seriously, the flame—it's much more effective than a thermometer reading above room temperature. Good choice, Miami.
Los Angeles Clippers
4 of 14The Los Angeles Clippers' home jersey is almost all white, and that's sick.
While their uniform appears to be simplistic, there is an air of intrigue about it as well.
The team emblem right near the neckline adds distinction, and the off-center jersey number is a great touch.
Los Angeles also has its team name written in big and bold cursive lettering. You have to respect that.
San Antonio Spurs
5 of 14The San Antonio Spurs' home jerseys only consist of the colors black and white, yet they have style.
San Antonio's seemingly conservative jersey gives the team a "let's get down to business" look, which suits them perfectly.
That being said, it is the liberal spur masquerading as a "U" that makes the uniform debonair.
It contradicts everything else about the design of the uniform, and that's simply cool.
Portland Trail Blazers
6 of 14If the Portland Trail Blazers didn't have that running red and black stripe on their home jersey, it would be a candidate for the most conservative uniform of all. Luckily, it isn't.
In what would usually be empty space, the Blazers have a color scheme, and after staring at more than a fair share of routine designs, Portland's is a welcomed sight.
A suggestion to make it better? Tiny mug shots of each member of the Portland Jail Blazers right around the NBA logo.
Golden State Warriors
7 of 14The Golden State Warriors' home uniform offers the best of both worlds, boasting both classic and newer attributes.
While most jerseys simply read the name of a team or what city they play for, Golden State's provides us with a visual aid in the form of the Golden Gate Bridge.
The goal here is for a team to distinguish itself from the rest of the pack, and while the Warriors don't always do that with game performances, their home jersey does it for them.
Utah Jazz
8 of 14Any jersey where a music note serves as the letter "J" is a winner.
The Utah Jazz have one of the coolest names in basketball, so it's only fitting that they found a creative way to convey it.
This design is so great that the Jazz should use it as their main selling pitch to prospective free agents.
Come to think of it, if they wind up shipping out Paul Millsap and/or Al Jefferson, they may have to.
Denver Nuggets
9 of 14Please attempt to ignore the suave Miami Heat away jersey that Chris Bosh is sporting and turn your attention to the Denver Nuggets home uniform that Nene Hilario is modeling.
The Nuggets' jerseys are simple, yet awesome.
The blue they use is cool, but it's the yellow outline around the letters and numbers that really bring it together.
Denver could have gone with black or no outline at all, but it went with yellow, and that deserves some recognition.
For the artistically interested, the Nuggets home uniform looks even cooler when placed upon the body of the human mural they call Chris Andersen.
New Orleans Hornets
10 of 14With Eric Gordon watching from the sidelines, the New Orleans Hornets don't have much going for them—except their flashy home uniforms.
New Orleans takes an otherwise bland idea and tosses some stripes on it to give it up some flair.
The Hornets may have lost Chris Paul, but their home jerseys are a more prominent display of pinstripes than the Orlando Magic's are, and at the end of the day, isn't that all that matters?
Washington Wizards
11 of 14The Washington Wizards are an awful team, but they get points for style.
Never before has red, white and blue appeared to be so innovative.
It's a step away from the usual genre of home jerseys and makes the Wizards themselves look like a formidable team. Prior to tip-off, that is.
These jerseys almost make the nation's capital proud to be home to the Wizards.
Almost.
Los Angeles Lakers (Part II)
12 of 14Kobe Bryant and crew aren't just about rocking the obnoxiously clever yellow home jerseys, as they can be found getting it done in white as well.
The Los Angeles Lakers' white uniforms have a great mix of purple and gold within it, and the two-color scheme for the jersey numbers was a stroke of genius.
What really gets the juices flowing are the overstated "L" and "R" near the top. Everyone can appreciate a letter or two that stretches beyond the space it's given.
It's difficult for Lakers fans to stomach a home loss, but they should find solace knowing their team will look fresh no matter what the outcome may be.
New York Knicks
13 of 14Call them hideous if you like, but the New York Knicks' St. Patrick's Day home jerseys are pleasantly bold.
The mixture of orange and green seems to turn some people off, but the color scheme is bold, and perhaps an acquired taste.
This jersey is a change from the predominantly white with a hint of orange and blue jerseys the Knicks normally sport.
And let's face it, they're festive and appropriate for both St. Patrick's and Christmas Day.
Miami Heat (Part II)
14 of 14The Miami Heat's alternate home jerseys are intimidating, and that's cool
The jersey itself is simple, yet shockingly brilliant.
Who would have thought that black on top more black with a white outline could be so effective?
Miami's nearly all black color scheme seems to send the message that this team is not to be messed with.
And you know what? I believe them.
