EPL Transfer News: Tottenham's Baffling Louis Saha Move

Before this window opened, Harry Redknapp was hinting at one marquee signing before February 1.

So much for that.

In a shocking development, Spurs are plotting a deadline day move for Everton striker Louis Saha, a move that will be accompanied by the departure of Steven Pienaar back to Everton.

A move for a striker is not surprising. With Roman Pavlyuchenko rarely used and looking for the exit, Emmanuel Adebayor still at the squad only on loan, Jermain Defoe quietly grumbling about playing time and Rafael van der Vaart never lasting 90 minutes, picking up a striker was almost imperative.

However, it's the target of the move that is strange.

Saha, the 33-year-old French striker for Everton, has struggled for form and has tallied just one mere goal in the EPL this season. With Tottenham firmly in third place in the league and only eight points off Manchester City's pace, fans expected a player with a higher profile who was in better form, especially given Redknapp's brash comments.

Instead, this move will bring more questions than answers.

Saha has proven his class in the past, especially in his run with Fulham, where he scored 53 goals in 117 matches.

However, at a slightly advanced age and with failing form, what do Spurs think they can get from him? Will he make a good partner for Defoe? Is a change of scenery all he needs? Does Redknapp know something we don't? Or is this just a desperate move to add depth?

I'll admit Saha wasn't the most exciting name to hear that Spurs were considering. However, while Spurs fans are rightfully skeptical about the move, I will withhold my judgment until he plays.

After all, this is the same Spurs squad that signed VDV and Parker under similar circumstances.
