Blake Griffin and the 10 Most Beastly Dunkers in the NBA

Matt ShetlerJun 7, 2018

Over the past 48 hours, NBA fans have been treated to a pair of highlight-reel dunks from the likes of LeBron James and Blake Griffin.

The NBA season may be shortened, but that doesn't mean fans don't have some monster highlights to follow.

The quality of athlete in today's NBA has never been better, meaning there are some great dunkers.

Let's take a look at Griffin and the 10 most beastly dunkers in the NBA today.

Honorable Mentions

1 of 11

There is no right answer among the Top 10, and one of your favorite guys likely didn't make the cut.

But this honorable-mention page shows some love to the likes of Russell Westbrook, John Wall, Kevin Durant, Shannon Brown, Dwyane Wade, Vince Carter and others who have soared above the rim.

10. Derrick Rose

2 of 11

The reigning MVP can definitely rise and finish above the rim.

He's the only point guard that cracked the Top 10, and with good reason.

He's become more of a complete point guard since his rookie year, but Rose can still fly with the best of them.

9. Dwight Howard

3 of 11

The best center in the NBA wouldn't be that way if he couldn't finish above the rim.

We all know about Howard's exploits in the Slam Dunk Contest, but Superman can rock the rim in game action as well.

8. JaVale McGee

4 of 11

McGee may have caught some flak for his off-the-backboard dunk a few weeks back, but there's no denying that he's one of the best dunkers in the game today.

7. Rudy Gay

5 of 11

Rudy Gay is healthy, and that means he's back to attacking the rim and creating highlights.

The Memphis Grizzlies need every one of them with Zach Randolph out of the lineup, and Gay has been more than happy to deliver.

6. Andre Iguodala

6 of 11

Iguodala is a guy who can attack and absolutely destroy the rim.

If he's out in transition, defenders could be better served by just getting out of the way.

5. Josh Smith

7 of 11

Josh Smith can fly and attack the rim.

Early on in his NBA career, Smith has his own highlight reel of nasty dunks.

Make no mistake about it, Smith is a fantastic finisher around the rim.

4. DeMar Derozan

8 of 11

DeRozan can fly, and playing in Toronto, not enough people get to see him on a regular basis, but he's had his share of monster dunks throughout his career.

He's definitely one of the best finishers around the rim in the game today.

3. DeAndre Jordan

9 of 11

Griffin isn't the only Los Angeles Clipper who can finish above the rim.

DeAndre Jordan can certainly rise up and throw it down as well.

They call it Lob City for a reason. The Clippers have a pair of great finishers in Griffin and Jordan.

2. LeBron James

10 of 11

You've seen it by now.

The man jumped over John Lucas. Insane.

A list of top dunkers has to include LeBron, and he put an exclamation point on that with Sunday's dunk over Lucas.

1. Blake Griffin

11 of 11

The guy is a freak of nature athletically—just ask Timofey Mozgov and now Kendrick Perkins.

Griffin is just too strong and can jump out of the gym.

There will be plenty more highlight dunks throughout his career, but for now, which one was better—last night's jam over Perkins or last season's against Mozgov?
