J.R. Smith's Troublesome Sister Involved in Another Altercation in China
Former Denver Nuggets star J.R. Smith is making noise in China. Unfortunately, it is not for his ability on the basketball court.
Chinese news sources, via Deadspin, have reported yet another altercation between Smith's sister and fans erupted in the crowd during a game:
"According to Chinese news sources, conflict erupted after Tianjin fans heckled J.R. Smith as he went to the line late in the third quarter. After what I believe to be Thunderstix were thrown onto the court by a spectator, Smith’s girlfriend got into a shoving match with Tianjin fans while his sister flipped the crowd the double-bird…
Stephanie Smith claims on her Twitter that she didn’t start the fight “this time.”
"
Smith is one of the few NBA stars who is still overseas playing out the remainder of his contract.
The end of the Chinese season cannot come soon enough for Smith and his family. The contract he signed during the NBA lockout did not include an opt-out clause, and he's mandated to finish out his deal with the Zhejiang Golden Bulls of the Chinese Basketball Association.
While it is great that his family is overseas to support him, starting trouble with a crowd in a foreign country certainly isn't going to go over well for them at all.
Smith's been scoring with ease in the CBA and will be back in the NBA before long. His family's best move is to simply ride it out without causing any more disturbances...even if they didn't start it.
