Senior Bowl 2012: The Most Logical NFL Team for Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden

Chris TrapassoJun 7, 2018

By now you know.

Oklahoma State's star quarterback Brandon Weeden is 28 years old and will be 29 during the 2012 NFL season.

Everything else about Weeden says he's ready to be a competent, starting quarterback at the next level. Under the right coach, it's expected he could flourish into one of the better signal-callers in the league.

During his time in Stillwater, he threw 75 career touchdowns to only 27 interceptions and accumulated nearly 9,000 passing yards in two full seasons as the starter.

The former second-round pick of the New York Yankees is participating in the Senior Bowl on Saturday in Mobile, Alabama.

Based on the opinion of many draft experts, scouts and media members, Weeden was the most polished, impressive and NFL-ready quarterback in attendance.

There's not much he does incorrectly as a signal-caller. He has a strong arm, has always displayed good accuracy and is a fine decision-maker. Weeden isn't a scrambling guy that can be relied upon to make plays with his feet, but he can elude the rush inside the pocket to extend plays and find the open receiver when his first few reads break down.

The real question is, where will he go in the 2012 draft? Which teams make the most sense for the talented Weeden?

Remember, all it takes is one team to believe his skill set, experience and productivity trump his unusual age for a draft prospect.

First things first, a team taking a second-round shot on him is not totally out of the question. If Weeden is the most steady quarterback throughout the entire predraft process—and as a passer, he should be—he may actually become somewhat of a hot commodity.

After the Indianapolis Colts take Andrew Luck with the No. 1 overall pick, there's bound to be many teams sending trade proposals to the St. Louis Rams and Minnesota Vikings who hold the No. 2 and No. 3 picks respectively.

I envision the Washington Redskins making the most aggressive play, thanks to their owner, Daniel Snyder. Matt Flynn will likely be acquired by another QB-needy club like the Miami Dolphins or Cleveland Browns

That still leaves a few teams who will be looking to add a franchise quarterback.

In my estimation, the Seattle Seahawks seem like the most viable option. Amidst their rebuilding efforts, they're unlikely to surrender future draft picks to move into the Top Five from their 11th or 12th spot (order of picks will be decided by a coin flip between Seattle and Kansas City). However, in order to return to NFC relevance, they know they need a signal-caller.

Weeden will almost assuredly be there when they pick in Round 2. Whichever team doesn't land Matt Flynn could take the Oklahoma State star in the second or third round as well.

However, with their current situation that calls for a reliable quarterback who can start immediately, the Seahawks make the most sense.
