2012 NBA Mock Draft: Will Anthony Davis or Andre Drummond Go No. 1?

Andy BaileyMay 31, 2018

Anthony Davis or Andre Drummond?

It seems to be a two-horse race for who will be the No. 1 overall pick in this summer's NBA draft.

However, things could certainly change between now and then, with talented wings like Harrison Barnes and Perry Jones also on the radar.

2011's crop of NBA rookies was maligned prior to the draft, but several of them have performed quite well. If 2012 is as good as advertised, the league could have quite an infusion of young talent from these two classes.

Where will all these youngsters go? Obviously, it's purely guesswork at this point, but here's my first 2012 NBA mock draft...

1. Washington Wizards: Anthony Davis

1 of 16

Height: 6'10"

Weight: 220 lbs

Position: PF/C

Age: 18

School: Kentucky

As someone who recently moved to Virginia, I've been able to see the Wizards play quite a bit this year. They're a very bad team and could use help at every position but point guard.

Pairing Anthony Davis with JaVale McGee in the frontcourt would give this young squad one of the most athletic and exciting post duos in the league.

Davis would instantly help with defense and rebounding and would give John Wall another finisher around the rim.

2. New Orleans Hornets: Andre Drummond

2 of 16

Height: 6'11"

Weight: 275 lbs

Position: C

Age: 18

School: Connecticut

Drummond's numbers have not reflected the hype surrounding him prior to this season, but he'll still go very high because of his upside.

3. Charlotte Bobcats: Perry Jones

3 of 16

Height: 6'11"

Weight: 235 lbs.

Position: PF/SF

Age: 20

School: Baylor

Perry Jones is one of the most versatile players in this class. At 6'11", he has the skills and athleticism to play three positions from the three to the five.

4. Detroit Pistons: Harrison Barnes

4 of 16

Height: 6'8"

Weight: 210 lbs

Position: SF

Age: 19

School: North Carolina

Barnes was perhaps the top prospect in the country prior to his freshman season with North Carolina. He hasn't quite lived up to the hype, but he's not too far off.

This year, his scoring and shooting percentages are up, and he'll almost definitely be a top-five pick this summer.

5. Toronto Raptors: Thomas Robinson

5 of 16

Height: 6'9"

Weight: 237 lbs

Position: PF

Age: 20

School: Kansas

Thomas Robinson didn't get many minutes playing behind the Morris twins the last couple years, but he's showing just how good he is during his junior season.

He's been widely considered a better pro prospect than those big men for a while, and the 18 points and 12 rebounds he's averaging backs that up.

6. New Jersey Nets: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

6 of 16

Height: 6'7"

Weight: 210 lbs

Position: SF

Age: 18

School: Kentucky

Anthony Davis was the most heralded freshman in Kentucky's stacked 2011 class, but Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has risen steadily throughout the year as another potential top-five pick.

While his perimeter game lacks consistency, he has the kind of athleticism that scouts always seem to fall for.

7. Sacramento Kings: Jared Sullinger

7 of 16

Height: 6'9"

Weight: 280 lbs

Position: PF/C

Age: 19

School: Ohio State

Last year, there was a slew of freshman who surprised most of us by deciding to return to school. Jared Sullinger was the first big name to spurn the 2011 NBA draft.

He's having another strong season with Buckeyes and will almost certainly be a top-10 pick.

8. Golden State Warriors: Bradley Beal

8 of 16

Height: 6'5"

Weight: 195 lbs

Position: SG

Age: 18

School: Florida

He may be slightly undersized as an NBA shooting guard, but many scouts feel Beal has the versatility to be something of a combo guard at the next level.

His biggest strengths are his shooting and basketball IQ. He may not be an elite athlete, but he's still good.

9. Phoenix Suns: Jeremy Lamb

9 of 16

Height: 6'5"

Weight: 185 lbs

Position: SG

Age: 19

School: Connecticut

Jeremy Lamb is one of the most intriguing prospects in this year's class.

For a 6'5" player, he has a very impressive 7'0" wingspan. That kind of disparity between height and wingspan usually has a serious adverse effect on shooting. That's not the case with Lamb, who's one of the country's best shooters.

His length and athleticism makes him a weapon on both ends of the floor, and he could be an instant impact guy next year.

10. Milwaukee Bucks: Meyers Leonard

10 of 16

Height: 7'0"

Weight: 240 lbs

Position: C

Age: 19

School: Illinois

For a seven-footer, Meyers Leonard moves very well and has pretty good athleticism.

He plays well around the rim on offense and is strong defensively and on the boards.

11. New York Knicks: John Henson

11 of 16

Height: 6'10"

Weight: 210 lbs

Position: C/PF

Age: 21

School: North Carolina

Because of his length and athleticism, John Henson is arguably the best post defender in this class.

He'll probably need to add strength to be effective against NBA bigs, but he has the tools.

12. Minnesota Timberwolves: Tyler Zeller

12 of 16

Height: 7'0"

Weight: 250 lbs

Position: C

Age: 22

School: North Carolina

Like his front-court mate John Henson, Tyler Zeller will need to add some strength in the NBA, but he has the fundamentals and athleticism to be successful.

13. Los Angeles Lakers: Quincy Miller

13 of 16

Height: 6'9"

Weight: 210 lbs

Position: PF/SF

Age: 19

School: Baylor

Another talented and versatile Baylor forward, Quincy Miller figures to be a lottery pick this summer. He has the size and athleticism to play both inside and out.

14. Portland Trail Blazers: Terrence Jones

14 of 16

Height: 6'8"

Weight: 244 lbs

Position: PF/SF

Age: 20

School: Kentucky

Prior to his freshman season, Terrence Jones was considered by many to be a potential top-five pick in the 2011 draft. His stock slowly tailed off last year, and this season, his production is way down playing with Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

He still has the kind of upside that could make him a lottery pick.
