Dwight Howard Trade Rumors: Will He Be Forced to Exit Orlando Via Free Agency?
So much for the list and who Dwight Howard will sign an extension with, it seems even the New Jersey Nets are willing to wait Howard out. The Nets only stand to further damage a doomed season by pursuing Howard this year, and its time to add some secondary priorities that don't include Howard.
The Lakers interest may still be there, especially after Howard demolished Andrew Bynum in their head to head match-up this past week; but the Lakers could easily not pick up Bynum's option for next season, and make a run at Howard then.
Many teams seem more inclined to make Howard stop selling wolf tickets, and move on or stay in Orlando, with the decision solely his. It almost appears that Howard wants out, but is afraid to strongly take that stance and publicly push for the trade as Carmelo Anthony did last year.
It seems, he would prefer to have the Magic bail him out with a trade. Winning was a priority Howard mentioned early on, but the Magic have one of the best records in the NBA at 11-4. Yet, he has stated, nothing has changed and that his desire to be traded still remains.
Does anybody know what Dwight Howard really wants?
Moreover, does Dwight Howard know what he really wants? I think he does, but he doesn't want to admit that his decision isn't about basketball. It certainly appears to have a lot to do with off the court opportunities and lifestyle, which is fine, but it gets irritating when a person isn't transparent.
The two opportunities that are best for him from a basketball standpoint, he doesn't seem to be attracted or committed to.
First, the Chicago Bulls were not included on his list of teams to sign an extension with, despite rumored interest from Chicago and the best young point guard in MVP, Derrick Rose.
Secondly, the chance to stay in the only NBA city he's ever known and to try and win a title there. He has already reached the Finals in Orlando and the Magic have been perennial playoff contenders for the past four seasons.
With all that said, the indecision is only creating the ultimate decision for Howard. Orlando and now New Jersey seem to be set to put Howard under the spotlight come June where he will have to pick free agency, and choose to walk away from Orlando.
