Australian Open 2012 Bracket: Novak Djokovic Won't Drop Set Until Quarterfinals

Michael DixonJun 7, 2018

If you have seen a reason to suggest that Novak Djokovic will do anything but continue to dominate, please tell me. Maybe it was the two dropped games in the 6-2, 6-0, 6-0 first round victory against Paolo Lorenzi.

If not that, then it has to be the 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 victory over Santiago Giraldo. The fact is that Djokovic is playing at such a level that only Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray have the tools to significantly threaten him.

Only a few more players have the game to even take a set off of him. Nicolas Mahut is not one of them, nor is Lleyton Hewitt. Milos Raonic has a bright future in the game, but that's not going to show in a fourth-round match against Djokovic.

No, the first player that can even to take a set from Djokovic is No. 5 David Ferrer, who would meet the Djoker in the quarterfinals if everything goes to plan.

Djokovic may drop a set in that match, but that is a long way away from losing the match. That is not going to happen in the quarterfinals. Actually, that's not going to happen in any match.

This is not a knock on any other player. Djokovic has just been in another world since the beginning of 2011, and nothing has happened since 2012 has arrived to suggest that it will go any different. Djokovic is just on a phenomenal role right now that makes even some of the world's best players look completely helpless.

That is going to continue Down Under, at least through the first four rounds. Once the quarterfinals begin, don't be surprised to see Djokovic lose a set, but nothing more than that. Until he begins to show signs of slowing down, there is no reason to believe that he will.

Djokovic already has a stellar history in Australia, winning the Open twice. This year, that history and fantastic play will take him right through Australian Open number three.
