Top 10 Best Power Forwards in College Basketball
The power forward can be difficult to define in the college game. Some are forced to play center, while some are power forwards in small forward bodies.
For the purpose of this list, power forward will be defined as any player listed as a forward who spends most of their time playing close to the basket.
You may think of some of these players as centers or small forwards, but they are all listed as forwards and play underneath.
With so many players having comparable pedigrees and also a wide range of skill sets, taken into account will be production and head-to-head performances.
Here are college basketball's top 10 power forwards.
10. Michael Glover: Iona
1 of 10Michael Glover isn't the biggest or strongest on the list, but he is a tremendous Mid-Major player.
Glover is half of a truly dynamic duo with point guard Scott Machado.
He averages 19.0 points per game and he grabs 8.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. He is also one of the nation's most efficient scorers, shooting 68 percent from the field.
Glover doesn't just stay on the receiving end of alley-oops from Machado in the MAAC, he also averaged 31.0 points and 12.3 rebounds per game in contests against Purdue, St. Joe's and Maryland.
If you don't know who Glover is, you should change that.
9. Mike Scott: Virginia
2 of 10Mike Scott is one of the nation's most unheralded players, but he has the surprise Virginia Cavaliers at 14-2 and ranked in the top 15 in college basketball.
Scott is both productive and efficient, scoring 16.9 points and grabbing 8.9 rebounds per game. He is also shooting 59 percent from the field.
He's posted double-doubles against Michigan and at Oregon, and in his first two conference games of the season he has averaged 23.0 points and 8.5 rebounds.
One of few big-time seniors, Scott has a chance to lead Virginia to a memorable season.
8. John Henson: North Carolina
3 of 10John Henson may not have played up to his vast potential this season, but he is still producing at a high level, and his defense is almost unmatched.
He averages 14.4 points and 9.7 rebounds per game while blocking 3.0 shots per game.
He could probably score more on another team, but he is happy to contribute in a limited offensive role. He more than makes up for it with his work on the glass and on defense.
He freakishly long arms allow him to alter shots in the paint and anchor the Tar Heels' defense.
7. Arnett Moultrie: Mississippi State
4 of 10Arnett Moultrie transferred from UTEP and he has been a huge blessing to Mississippi State.
His first two SEC games were a bit of a struggle, but he bounced back with 25 points and 13 rebounds against Alabama.
On the season he is averaging 16.5 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. He has nine double-doubles this season, and his height and long arms allow him to defend the rim and also finish around it.
Moultrie can get as high for a rebound as almost anyone in the nation and is a dominating offensive rebounder.
6. Mike Moser: UNLV
5 of 10Mike Moser may possess the least amount of strength and power on the list, but he dominates the glass like not many others can.
At 6'8" and 195 pounds, Moser is slight in build, but can jump out of the building.
He is averaging a double-double for the season with 13.9 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. He has led UNLV to upset victories over North Carolina, Illinois and Cal.
Moser may not be well-known yet, but he is one of the most enjoyable players to watch in the college game.
5. Anthony Davis: Kentucky
6 of 10Although just a freshman, Anthony Davis is possibly the most dominant defender in the country.
He is averaging an astonishing 4.6 blocks and 1.6 steals per game.
He is also scoring 13.1 points and grabbing 10.1 rebounds per game. Davis has shown a nice ability to find the open man, and he is a terror on both ends of the floor.
Davis isn't the strongest player in the game, but his length and athleticism are a nightmare to deal with.
4. Draymond Green: Michigan State
7 of 10Draymond Green is on this list for his toughness, leadership and track record as a winner as much as anything else. That is not to say his production is insufficient.
Green is one of the nation's most versatile players, as he can score inside and out, defend, rebound and distribute.
He is posting career-highs in almost every statistical category with 15.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. He is even shooting 41 percent from three-point range.
Defensively, he is hounding opponents for 1.5 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. Green is leading the Spartans to a top 10 season.
3. Kevin Jones: West Virginia
8 of 10Kevin Jones may be a surprise this high, but he has been absolutely dominant for West Virginia.
He is scoring 20.1 points per game with 11.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks.
He pounded Perry Jones in a two-point loss to Baylor with 28 points and 17 rebounds.
In his last three Big East contests he is averaging 22.7 points and 11.7 rebounds. Jones is a force to be reckoned with and is crushing the competition in the nation's most physical league.
2. Jared Sullinger: Ohio State
9 of 10Admittedly, Jared Sullinger may be this high partly to reputation.
He hasn't been viewed as being equally dominant to last year, but he has battled a few injuries and still been highly productive on one of the nation's top teams.
Sullinger is a bully down low who possesses a great amount of skill. He is averaging 17.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. He is very active on the defensive end, nabbing 1.5 steals per game.
He is highly efficient, shooting 60 percent from the field.
Sullinger is averaging 19.3 points and 9.5 rebounds in conference games.
1. Thomas Robinson: Kansas
10 of 10Thomas Robinson is almost unquestionably the best power forward in the game.
He is averaging 17.8 points and 12.3 rebounds per game. He also averages over a block and a steal per game.
Robinson has a ton of heart and desire to dominate every night, and he generally does just that.
Against Baylor he put up 27 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. He is in the process of leading Kansas to a Big 12 title.
He has posted a double-double in 13 of his 18 games.
