Arik Armstead Saves Auburn For Last Official Visit, but Will He Ever be a Tiger?
Although the college football regular season is over, this doesn't mean the sport goes into hibernation mode. This time of the year involves recruiting and teams trying to build for the future. Which teams can land some of the nation's top prospects, and which teams will be set for the next year or two?
Arik Armstead is one of those top players that is still uncommitted, and he could really help any team out with his huge size and athletic ability. Armstead is one of the nation's top offensive linemen out there, although he wants to play on the defensive line when he arrives on campus.
He's a big boy at 6'8", 275 pounds, has great strength and is extremely explosive off the ball. He's very athletic, and the way he dominates the guy in front of him is almost scary. He is one of those players that can come in and start right away. He also has the potential to really be one of those players that will make a huge difference on either side of the line he plays on.
Now the question is, which school does he go to?
Armstead has offers from nearly every major school and is finishing up his official visits before he makes his final decision. His last visit was at Auburn, but what are the chances he actually becomes a Tiger?
""The visit was good, I had fun down there," Armstead said. "It was my last visit. It was good. I enjoyed it down there. The people are good and they treated me well. It’s Cal, Oregon, Notre Dame and there (Auburn). I have a big decision in the next couple of days.
"It’s definitely the relationship I have with them," he added of what has Auburn high on his list. "Coach (Curtis) Luper and Coach [Mike] Pelton and Coach Troop (Trooper Taylor), all of the coaches, I have a good relationship with them. I feel like I can trust them."
"
Auburn will always stand a chance, considering it is an SEC school and has a lot to offer, along with a talented team. I just believe that it's going to be very difficult for Armstead to pick any school other than the California Golden Bears.
California is where Armstead is from, the Golden Bears have a great recruiting class already and it's where most of his friends from the area have committed. He and his family are very comfortable with the coaching staff as well.
Armstead also took official visits to Alabama, Notre Dame and Texas. A decision is expected to be made in the next few days.
Auburn, of course, has a shot—I just don't think that'll be the school he picks when he makes his decision.
