Urban Meyer's Completed Coaching Staff Will Doom OSU'S Recruiting Rivals

Rivals of Ohio State had one chance to get an edge on recruiting against Urban Meyer and Ohio State before National Signing Day. They needed the Buckeyes to have uncertainty, at least at some positions.

That door is now shut, as according to ESPN's Brian Bennett, Meyer's coaching staff has been completed.

Underestimating the value of a good assistant/position coach would be foolish: These are the guys that spend the most time with players. Head coaches oversee the team. They make adjustments and put game plans in.

But from the perspective of a recruit, they're going to spend most of their time with assistants and position coaches. On and off of the field, the position coaches deal with individual players a lot more than any head coach does. 

If there were vacancies on the coaching staff before uncommitted recruits had to sign, other schools would be more in play. This applies not only to the class of 2012, but also early recruits in the class of 2013. 

But now that that's not a factor anymore: We need to only look at Meyer's recruiting history and record to figure out where most of those recruits are going to go. 

Meyer never had any problem bringing in big name players at Florida, and it helped him win two BCS National Championships.

Before Florida, Meyer enjoyed great success at Utah for the same reasons. When the situation is ideal, Meyer lands the majority of his targets.

Naturally, that translates to great success on the field.

In rounding out his coaching staff, Meyer minimized the hits that Ohio State will have to take in recruiting. Yes, they lost scholarships for the next three years and have a one-year bowl ban, but at Ohio State, that's not a big problem. This is a school that has its choice of big recruits every year. 

Meyer and his coaches just gave those recruits another reason to go to Columbus.
