LSU vs. Alabama: What Are We Going to Do to Get Rid of SEC Next Year?

Kay JenningsMay 31, 2018

OK.  Everyone out there who is sick of the SEC raise your hand.  I thought so.

How much more of these excruciatingly boring games must we be subjected to?  I understand that defense wins games.  I personally like defense.  I tend to gravitate more to players who are unsung defensive heroes on their teams rather than the usual offensive suspects.

But, sheesh, enough is enough.  One touchdown in eight quarters of football??  Give me a break.

When the highlight of the BCS National Championship game is Chris Fowler's halftime conversation with Auburn's Gene Chizik and Oregon's Chip Kelly, who it should be pointed out gave us a heck of a lot more entertaining game last year, you know we have a serious problem here.

So, what are we going to do about it, football fans?

First, it's important to realize that the SEC does lose football games; the media seems to have lost track of that fact.  May I direct you to Georgia and Vanderbilt recently.

Second, it's clear the rest of the football universe needs to step up.  We can turn this puppy around if we all have a singular goal next year.  Here, at a minimum, is what we need to do:

To start things off on the right note, Michigan you must, absolutely must, beat Alabama on September 1 in the Cowboys Classic.  If Oregon had beaten LSU in last year's event in Dallas, we wouldn't be looking at the sorry situation we are in tonight.

Next, and I realize this is highly unlikely, but Washington needs to find a way to get a win in Baton Rouge on September 8.  Please consider this a direct challenge to your manhood, Huskies.

In the rest of the Pac-12, Oregon and USC need to run the table and set up a high stakes game on November 3.  Both the Ducks and USC have much going for them and are popular teams on the national stage.  They would steal the limelight for at least one whole week.  And if College GameDay isn't at that game, I'm the pope.

Further, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but "Hook 'Em Horns."  Texas must beat Ole Miss on September 15.

Clemson, you get two opportunities to be the hero.  Beat Auburn on September 1, and beat South Carolina on November 24.  Rise up, I say rise up, and get the job done.

Whenever any team from any other conference in the country has an opportunity to beat an SEC team this year, you must take a good, long look in the mirror on game day and then go out and just do it.

We are all in this together.  All of us against them.  Let 2012 be the year we all determine to crush the SEC and keep this debacle from ever happening again. We can do this.  We must do this.  Now is the time.

Or steel yourselves to hear "Roll Tide." "Geaux Tigers," and "War Eagle" the rest of your lives.  I, for one, simply can't bear it.

Here we go: one, two, three, LET'S GO!
