Omar Ortiz: Soccer Scumbag Highlights Issues Facing Crime-Ridden Mexico
Mexico continues to suffer from rampant crime and it seems their sports heroes can't even be trusted anymore.
The Huffington Post reports former Mexican international soccer goalkeeper, Omar Ortiz, has been arrested for his alleged part in a kidnapping ring. The report states Ortiz, "admitted helping the gang pick out at least two of its 20 kidnap victims, using his celebrity to get close and collect information from them."
That would just about be the lowest thing an athlete can do. Ortiz, if he did indeed lure victims using his personae, is a nauseating piece of garbage that will now wastes away in Mexican prison.

This is a proud country that has been hit hard by the dregs of society threatening to take over. Tourism is taking a hard hit, as many are afraid to traverse to a beautiful land that would otherwise be a key destination spot.
For kidnap rings, it's all about the money, or potential money for that matter. The latest kidnapping included the husband of Mexican pop star Gloria Trevi. The amount that was ransomed for his release was not leaked, but that was by far the most noteworthy abduction in recent memory.
If you want statistical proof of the grave nature of the problem. The reports cites kidnappings went up, "nearly 200 percent from 438 in 2007 to 1284 in 2010."
Per the report, about 50,000 people have been killed since President Felipe Calderon decided to crack down on drugs and drug trafficking five years ago.
Of course, we offer no answers on the qualms of a society rich in culture. There is no solution that will heal a gaping wound that seems to grow bigger before it will begin to heal.
The sad fact is: Athletes can never be seen as role models. That is something echoed since Charles Barkley's commercials decades ago. It is a sad, sad day when we also have to include on the list a parasitic villain who would prey on loyalty to sports and teams.
Ortiz was a star goalkeeper but now he is just scum.
