LSU vs. Alabama: Line Movement Makes Tigers the Play in BCS Championship

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

The No. 1 ranked LSU Tigers are actually the underdog in the 2012 BCS Championship Game.

When the line opened, they were favored by one point.  Since that time, the line has moved all the way to Alabama (-2.5), according to Scores and Odds.

Remember, these are basically the same two teams that played a 9-6 overtime showdown in early November.

Neither team underwent any major transformation since that time, and neither of them has gotten worse.

Why Alabama is favored now is quite intriguing, and it is owed to a number of factors.

For starters, the Crimson Tide left at least 12 points on the field in their last meeting with the Tigers.

Four missed field goals will not happen again; it would be a surprise if coach Nick Saban even attempted that many.

Alabama was moving the football much better than the Tigers were in that game, but they simply couldn't finish, and they made two huge mistakes that cost them at least a six-point swing.

Quite honestly, it's hardly a shock that the Tide are favored at all.  It's very difficult to beat a team twice in one season, especially one so similar in talent and philosophy.

But as the game gets closer, that 2.5 line is going to move, and not toward Alabama (-3).

When the public sees the line giving the Tigers that much of an edge, they are going to jump back on top of it and force it down.

LSU is, after all, the No. 1 team in the land playing what is basically a home game in the Mercedes Benz Superdome.

As things stand right now, with the way the line has moved, there's no better time to jump on the Tigers getting points, or even on the money line.

It won't stay this juicy, so get it while it's hot.

Unless you're Rolling Tide, of course.
