NFL Draft 2012: Looking at QB Prospects After Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III

John RozumJun 2, 2018

Okay, so we know the two best QBs in the 2012 NFL Draft are Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin. That being said, with Matt Barkley and Landry Jones returning to college, what about the rest of the QB prospects?

Well, here's a look at some deserving of more recognition.

Nick Foles, Arizona

A 6'5", 240 pound frame with a strong arm a solid accuracy, Arizona's Nick Foles is slated to be a mid-to-late second round pick.

He's gradually improved with each season and threw for over 4,300 yards in 2011. Finishing the year with a 69.1 completion percentage, Foles threw 28 TDs to 14 picks despite not having much help around him.

In the NFL he must learn to take what the defense gives him as he's too patient in some cases. Still, his strong arm and willingness to sit in the pocket does give him a promising shot in the pros.

Kirk Cousins, Michigan State

Arguably the best of the mid-round talent, Michigan State's Kirk Cousins, if anything, is a team leader with a lot of potential.

Now, his numbers aren't nearly as sexy with just over 3,300 passing yards and a 63.7 completion percentage. The difference is that the Spartans are a run-oriented team in a run-heavy conference. However, Cousins also managed to throw for 25 TDs to just 10 picks (five in final three games).

The downside is his weak arm compared to most and he's not very good at buying time. What makes him so successful though, is his pre-snap reads and overall football IQ.

Chandler Harnish, Northern Illinois

Not your prototypical NFL QB, however, neither was Cam Newton or Tim Tebow coming out of college and they've had some good success in 2011. To that end, Northern Illinois' Chandler Harnish need not go overlooked.

The man, literally, is the entire Huskies offense. Harnish accounted for almost 4,600 total yards (3,216 passing), had 39 total TDs (28 passing) and finished 2011 with a 61.7 completion percentage and just six picks.

His dual-threat ability will be look more impressive because of Tebow and Newton's success, however, playing in the MAC conference will restrict his draft status. Still, with a good arm and solid mechanics, Harnish can do some work in the pros.

Kellen Moore, Boise State

Doesn't have the strongest arm but is willing to take what the defense give him. What's impressive about Boise State's Kellen Moore is that his 2011 campaign was arguably better than 2010.

The impressive aspect is that Moore was without his two best targets (Titus Young, Austin Pettis) who accounted for 142 total receptions in 2010. In 2011, Kellen completed 74.3 percent of his throws, threw 43 TDs to just nine picks and had exactly 3,800 yards.

His 6'1", 195 pound frame isn't ideal which also works against his draft stock, but there's no denying a career college record of 50-3 (most all-time).
