2012 NFL Draft: Teams in Desperate Need of Offensive Playmakers

Eric BowmanJun 7, 2018

The 2012 NFL Draft may be months away, but several teams are already pondering who they should take.

A number of teams need to boost their front line, or add a strong defender, but it's always the offensive playmakers that steal the show.

This year's class features a ton of talent, and while some will turn into busts, others will shine bright and go on to have splendid NFL careers.

Those teams with the top picks in the draft have big needs all over, but a few of them need to solely focus on adding an athlete who will help put points on the board.

With that said, here are three teams in dire need of an offensive playmaker.

Jacksonville Jaguars

If Blaine Gabbert is going to have a successful NFL career, he needs to be surrounded by a ton of talent.  The great quarterbacks can turn average players into stars, but Gabbert is far from an elite QB.

This means Jacksonville's new staff must use the No. 7 pick wisely.  Drafting one of the top wideouts in the draft will help make life easier for Gabbert, and in turn will give the Jaguars a better chance to win.

Maurice Jones-Drew isn't enough to win games for Jacksonville, and as Gabbert continues to develop, the team would be better off if he had a standout wide receiver as a big play threat.

Cleveland Browns

Colt McCoy has potential to be the answer in Cleveland, but we'll never truly know unless the Browns upgrade their skill positions.

Then again, if Cleveland already feels McCoy won't cut it, they should look to draft dual-threat quarterback Robert Griffin III with the No. 4 pick.

Whatever the Browns decide, it has to be in the best interest of the offense.

Cleveland has two first round draft picks this year, and if they wish to be competitive in the extremely tough AFC North, they have to add more talent.

Defense reigns supreme in that division, so stockpiling playmakers will help the Browns chances of having success.

Chicago Bears

Jay Cutler and Matt Forte have already shown they can't win big for the Bears without more help. With the No. 19 pick, Chicago is in a huge bind as far as filling their biggest need.

If the Bears wish to hang with the mighty Green Bay Packers and even the surging Detroit Lions, Cutler has to have a legitimate threat at the wide receiver position.

It would  greatly benefit the Bears to trade up for an Alshon Jeffery or Michael Floyd, but if they don't want to give up draft picks, then trading down might be a better option.

To me, trading up is the Bears' best bet because they need an elite player to help right now, as opposed to drafting a project in the late first round.

The only way Chicago is going to win is if Cutler has a dynamic receiver to not only help move the ball down the field, but to take pressure off Forte (if he stays with them) and scare opposing teams.
