Under Armour All-American Game: Which Teams Can Steal Mario Edwards from FSU?
Mario Edwards is the top prospect in the land, according to ESPNU. The big DE prospect shocked everyone in Orlando by coming at 297 pounds. No, that doesn't mean Edwards is out of shape by any means.
He started the offseason in the 260-270 range, then jumped to the 280 mark. Now, it looks like the 6'4" Edwards will be playing college ball at 300 pounds at DE with his elite athleticism, strength and snap quickness.
Committed to Florida State, Edwards has been wavering a bit on his pledge to Tallahassee. Let's see which schools have a realistic chance at swooping him from the Seminoles.
Oklahoma
1 of 3The Sooners have been in play for Edwards for awhile now. What's not to love about OU? Especially since Edwards is from Texas, the Sooners are always lurking around the Lone Star state.
Edwards took a visit to Norman on Dec. 16 and followed the OU season closely. Yet, in an interview with ESPNU recently, Edwards stated that he is a little "shaky" about OU right now.
Texas
2 of 3Texas finished second to Florida State when Edwards committed in the spring, so that's why when I learned Edwards was wavering, I figured Texas would jump back into the race.
And they have. Big time. The Longhorns are building a memorable class for the ages, and Edwards could be the crowning piece.
He tripped to Austin on Dec. 9 and really digs the atmosphere on campus. Hmmm...
LSU
3 of 3Ah yes, then there's the Tigers. LSU has shocked people recently by nabbing Gunner Kiel even though it wasn't even on his radar when the process started.
Could lightning strike twice in Baton Rouge? Maybe so, as Edwards is looking hard at the Tigers. He's due there on the 20th of this month which is sure to be a crucial weekend.
The speed of the defense is what draws Edwards to the idea of playing for John Chavis' unit.
