Nate Robinson to Join the Golden State Warriors After Short Stint in Boston

Karthik TadisinaJan 3, 2012

The Golden State Warriors are expected to add free agent point guard Nate Robinson and some more athleticism to their backcourt (via ESPN).

Robinson was released by the Oklahoma City Thunder in early December and was looking to sign with another team for the shortened 2011-12 NBA season.

Robinson—an undersized point guard standing at 5"9'—has defied the laws of physics during his professional basketball career.  He is an exceptional athlete that played both college football and basketball at the University of Washington (as a scorer), and established himself in the NBA by winning the Slam Dunk Championship three times (2006, 2009 and 2010) during All-Star Weekend.

Additionally, the fiery guard has the reputation of working hard even though—at times—he has gone a little bit over the edge with his shoot first mentality.

He was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in the 2005, but was immediately dealt to the New York Knicks—where he went on to spend almost five seasons before being traded to the Boston Celtics. In Boston, Robinson played off the bench even though his playing time fluctuated throughout the year with the Celtics.

Robinson went on to spend only one season with the Celtics before being traded once again, this time to the Oklahoma City Thunder—along with Kendrick Perkins—that brought Jeff Green to Boston.

In Oklahoma City, Robinson was the third point guard behind starter Russell Westbrook and backup Eric Maynor. As a result, Robinson hardly received playing time in Oklahoma City and averaged 3.3 points in four games played.

It will be interesting to see how the Warriors use Nate Robinson—pairing him with Monta Ellis would make for one heck of an athletic backcourt.
