Luis Suarez: Liverpool Must Add Attacking Talent in Transfer Window Without Star

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

Liverpool forward Luis Suarez will not appeal his eight-match ban given by the Football Association for racially abusing Manchester United left back Patrice Evra on October 15, which means Reds manager Kenny Dalglish has to buy attacking talent in this month's transfer window.

Liverpool doesn't have anyone else like Suarez at forward who can take defenders on with great pace and quality dribbling skills.

Suarez is a fantastic finisher in front of the goal too, and he is the only player the Reds can consistently depend on to score.

He leads the club with five league goals, and other than midfielder Craig Bellamy, who has scored four times, no one else has more than two goals in league play.

Until Friday's win over Newcastle, Liverpool had not scored more than two goals in a match in any competition since August 27.

Without Suarez, the club is really going to struggle to score goals. Liverpool has scored only 24 times in league play this season, which is the third-fewest of all the clubs in the top 10 of the Premier League table.

In six league matches against the top five clubs in the table, Liverpool have scored six goals. That's not good enough if Liverpool wants to finish in the top four this season and secure qualification for the Champions League.

Andy Carroll has been a massive disappointment during his tenure at Anfield. He cannot be a lone striker in the final third and be successful. He doesn't have pace, he cannot beat defenders with quick skill moves and his heading skills are overrated.

Dalglish has to find some attacking players in the transfer window, or Liverpool will only be able to fight for Europa League qualification.

The Reds have a strong defense and have only allowed 18 goals in the league, which is the third fewest total.

Without being able to score enough goals, playing solid defense won't matter, because Liverpool is only going to be able to win games 1-0 or 2-1.

With so few goal-scoring threats, the Reds will draw in way too many matches than they should. Their seven draws are tied with Norwich City for the most among clubs in the top 10 of the table.

Without Suarez, Liverpool has very little attacking talent and will drop too many points to have a realistic chance of finishing in the top four.

With new owners and a desperate need for goal-scoring, Liverpool has to bring in a world-class attacking player in this month's transfer window to have a chance of finishing the season strongly.
