Chicago Bears: Breaking Down Mess That Is the Bears Front Office

Today marks a huge shift in the leadership and direction of the Chicago Bears. While Lovie Smith was deemed safe for 2012 after Jerry Angelo's dismissal, offensive coordinator Mike Martz has resigned his position.

He has cited philosophical differences with Smith as the reason for his departure. Martz has long been criticized by the Bears fanbase and questioned abroad for his approach and handling of the Bears offense.

The "philosophical differences" mentioned are still a bit of a mystery. Martz had conformed, and the Bears rushed for over 2,000 yards as a team this season. Still, it seemed that Martz was dragged kicking and screaming into this type of a game plan.

There seemed to be this unspoken struggle between Martz attempting to re-create the greatest show on turf, even though he had neither the turf or players to do so, and Smith subtly reminding us that the Bears are a running football team in his trademark Texas drawl.

Now this will be yet another offense that Jay Cutler has to learn when he comes back. It also remains to be seen the way this change will effect the Bears draft strategies.

This has been the busiest postseason day for a team that didn't make the playoffs in a long time.
