Giannis Antetokounmpo on His Play This Year 'Holy S--t ... I Know That I Have More'
Giannis Antetokounmpo is averaging a career-best 31.7 points per game and is in the middle of the MVP race, but the Milwaukee Bucks star believes there is plenty of room for improvement.
"Do I think I'm better this year? One hundred percent," he said, per Eric Nehm of The Athletic. "Do I believe I've shown it? No. But it's very scary to me, because every day I go back home, I'm like, 'Holy s--t. I still, I know that I have more.'"
That is a daunting thought for the rest of the league, as the 28-year-old is the primary reason the Bucks are 33-17 and in third place in the Eastern Conference even though Khris Middleton has been limited to 11 inconsistent games because of injuries.
Milwaukee seems to be rounding into form with four consecutive wins, the last of which saw Antetokounmpo drop 50 points and 13 rebounds in a victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.
It was one of multiple impressive performances this month, including 41 points in a win over the Indiana Pacers, 55 points in a victory over the Washington Wizards and a triple-double of 30 points, 21 rebounds and 10 assists in a win over the Toronto Raptors.
Antetokounmpo is in a crowded MVP race with the likes of Nikola Jokić, Joel Embiid, Luka Dončić, Jayson Tatum and Ja Morant, but stacking showings like that on top of each other as the Bucks climb the standings will only help his cause.
So would tapping into the next level that he believes he can reach given his comments.
His resume already includes a championship, NBA Finals MVP, two league MVPs, a Defensive Player of the Year, six All-NBA selections, six All-Star nods and five All-Defensive recognitions.
If Antetokounmpo retired tomorrow, he would go down as one of the best players in league history, and he has his Bucks in position to challenge for a second championship in three years while playing at an elevated level.
And it will be even scarier if he can elevate his play even more.
