Doric SamMay 24, 2022

The BIG3 is back for a fifth season that will see a slight return to normalcy.

After limiting travel in last year's return season following a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the BIG3 will resume a semi-tour model for the 2022 season. The season will commence on June 18, starting with two weeks in Chicago followed by seven weeks in Dallas.

The exact dates and locations for the playoffs and championship game have yet to be revealed, but this year will see the debut of an All-Star Game at Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas after the championship game.

Power, led by head coach Nancy Lieberman, captain Cuttino Mobley and co-captain Royce White, will have a tough decision when the draft opens on Wednesday.

This year's pool of players has some impressive talent as well as notable newcomers, with a slew of former NBA players testing their hand at the BIG3 for the first time.

Delonte West was one of three ticket winners in the Washington, D.C., tryouts. West underwent treatment at a rehab facility in 2020 and was later arrested for alleged drunken behavior in October last year. He began working out at Pat the Roc Basketball Academy in Maryland in February, per TMZ Sports.

The No. 24 pick in the 2004 NBA draft, West played for the Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics, Cleveland Cavaliers and Dallas Mavericks. He also had stints in the NBA D League with the Texas Legends and in the Chinese Basketball Association with Fujian Xunxing and Shanghai Sharks.

Daniel Gibson and Corey Brewer are a couple of recognizable names who last played in the NBA. The latter's size, energy and defensive ability make him a natural fit for 3-on-3 basketball, while the former was a sharpshooter during his prime and recorded over 40 percent from three-point range in four of his seven NBA seasons.

Fans might remember the names Ty Lawson and DeJuan Blair. Both of them have enjoyed productive runs in China after departing the NBA.

Lawson, a former NCAA champion with UNC, averaged 26.5 points and 7.9 assists per game on 53.4 percent shooting from the floor and 40.5 percent from beyond the arc in three seasons in the Chinese Basketball Association. In his lone season in the CBA, Blair put up averages of 24.1 points and 13.6 rebounds per game.

Another name to watch is Jordan Crawford, who also made a name for himself overseas after six NBA seasons. He spent time in Turkey, Europe and the G-League, but his run in the CBA was the most astonishing; in 26 games for the Golden Lions, he averaged an incredible 43.1 points per game.

Those newcomers, combined with the incumbents returning, should make for an exciting 2022 BIG3 season.
