English Premier League Power Rankings: Week 17

Joe TanseyDec 28, 2011

This week, all 20 of the clubs in the Premier League took part in the celebration of Boxing Day by playing on the holiday itself or the day after.

With the set of 10 games, only three had a winner and loser, with two scoreless draws and five games that all ended with a 1-1 result.

All of the clubs will have a deserved few days off before finishing off the holiday fixture list as clubs will play two games in a five-day span from New Year's Eve to January 4th.

As always, last week's ranking is in parentheses.

20. Bolton (19)

1 of 20

Bolton could not carry the momentum they gained from their previous game at Blackburn, which was a win, into their Boxing Day clash with Newcastle.

The Trotters fell 2-0 to their guests at the Reebok Stadium.

The fans at the club's home ground may see defender Gary Cahill only a few more times in a Bolton kit as he is being strongly linked to a move to Chelsea in January.

19. Wigan (13)

2 of 20

After fighting with two of the league's top clubs, Chelsea and Liverpool, to draws in their last two games, Wigan failed to gain a result even remotely close to those games.

The Latics' road trip to Old Trafford resulted in a 5-0 loss and broke the club's three-game unbeaten streak, something Wigan fans will most likely not see for the rest of the year.

Roberto Martinez's club will visit the Brittania Stadium on New Year's Eve to face Stoke and then host Sunderland on Tuesday at the DW Stadium.

18. Blackburn (20)

3 of 20

Blackburn somehow managed to earn a point at Anfield on Boxing Day against Liverpool.

Rovers were outplayed by their hosts but due to a Charlie Adam own goal and plenty of missed opportunities by their opponents, they drew Liverpool by a score of 1-1.

Two games in three days is the next tough task for Rovers, who still sit at the bottom of the table, with a trip to Manchester United and a home clash with Stoke upcoming.
