NBA Rumors: Peace Will Be Short Lived with Stephen Jackson in Milwaukee
The Milwaukee Bucks have put out the fires sparked by a volatile Stephen Jackson situation—for now.
There is no way to appease Stephen Jackson forever. The fact that the malcontented star is playing nice for the time being should be savored like sweet egg nog because both the beverage and the peace will be gone by next month.
Charles F. Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writes on the latest Stephen Jackson news. It seems that the back is feeling fine, and the guard-forward is ready and willing to get back on the court.
"I'll be ready to play tomorrow, unless somebody tells me no. I wanted to practice today but I just took the shot this morning.
"
Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times reports that Jackson was flirting with a holdout for more years and money being tacked onto his contract.
Jackson still has two more years with the Bucks and is set to make $9 million.
You only have to see the tweet from ESPN's John Hollinger to know that Jackson is dreaming if he wants to get a new deal.
As Woelfel writes in his report:
"[T]here are growing whispers that the 33-year-old Jackson isn't content with his current contract.
Jackson is the second-highest paid player on the Bucks this season at $9.26 million. Andrew Bogut is the highest paid Buck at $12.1M. Jackson is also guaranteed $10 million for next season.
"
No amount of on-court success will assuage the player that was whining about a new deal when he was with the Bobcats.
Jackson knows that his career is nearing its end, and he wants assurances of one last payday. That doesn't come when one is 35 years old.
The problem is that the Bucks would be foolish to lock up Jackson for more when they don't have to. Never mind that no other team would be willing to do the same, Jackson will become an issue once he thinks he has made himself worthwhile to a prospective buyer.
The Bucks may have an end to the Jackson issue, but the star still wants to get paid. I am confident that this will once again boil up close to the trade deadline.
