NFL Draft 2012: 5 Prospects Tom Brady Should Be Begging Bill Belichick For
While the New England Patriots will most likely use the NFL draft to help fix the worst statistical defense in football, there are some great offensive players that Tom Brady would love to have around him.
The Patriots will make their selection towards the end of the first round due to a great record, but will have a second pick around that time thanks to the New Orleans Saints.
During the 2011 draft, the Saints traded away their 2012 first-round pick to New England in order to select running back Mark Ingram.
This year, there are plenty of quality players that could be available at that stage of the draft.
Alshon Jeffery, WR South Carolina
1 of 5Alshon Jeffery had a poor 2011 season from a statistical perspective, but he will still be able to make an impact at the next level.
He finished the regular season with only 614 receiving yards on 45 receptions. A year ago, he totaled 88 catches for 1,517 yards.
Despite the struggles, Jeffery still has the size, speed and talent of a great NFL receiver.
The Patriots have great tight ends, but do not have that much depth at wide receiver. Jeffery could be the big outside threat that left with Randy Moss.
Kendall Wright, WR Baylor
2 of 5Like Alshon Jeffery, Kendall Wright could be a replacement for Randy Moss.
The difference however, would not be in size but in speed.
Wright stands at only 5'10", but the Baylor receiver is one of the fastest players in college football.
The Patriots do not throw down the field as often as they used to, and Wright could help spread the field and open things up underneath for Wes Welker and Rob Gronkowski.
Lamar Miller, RB Miami
3 of 5The New England Patriots' rushing attack has been somewhat of an afterthought in the past few years, and it is currently ranked No. 20 in the NFL.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis has done well with his nine touchdowns, but he should not be a feature running back in the NFL.
Lamar Miller was only a sophomore this season, but has already announced that he is declaring for the NFL draft.
Miller is a solid runner that combines size and explosiveness to get by defenders. He surpassed 100 yards in seven games this year and totaled 1,272 yards on the ground.
He is not that good of a receiver yet, so the Patriots will probably have to keep Kevin Faulk around, but Miller could provide a steady presence in the backfield for years to come.
David DeCastro, OG Stanford
4 of 5The New England Patriots are still in the top five in allowing the least amount of sacks, but the team should not want to take any risks with Tom Brady.
David DeCastro is not only outstanding in pass blocking but should also help in the run game.
The guard spent the last three seasons protecting highly-touted quarterback Andrew Luck at Stanford, and is now ready to take his talent to the next level.
He can help an aging offensive line for the Patriots.
The team is also not afraid to use a first-round pick on a guard, as they selected Logan Mankins seven years ago in the first round and do not regret that decision.
Cordy Glenn, OL Georgia
5 of 5Cordy Glenn has been a starter for all four years of his career at Georgia, and is ready for a new challenge.
The Patriots would love the All-SEC performer due to his run-blocking ability and his versatility.
Glenn has started at each guard position as well as tackle, and could help immediately at any position of need.
The lineman is underrated by some scouts, but he would be valuable for any team whether they have offensive line issues or not. At the very least he could provide depth across the entire line.
