NBA Preseason 2011: Jimmer Fredette and Top 5 Rookies We Can't Wait to See
One of the best things about a new NBA season is checking out the new rookies on each squad. Some rookies are more intriguing than others.
Jimmer Fredette is perhaps the most intriguing of all the first-year players. He doesn't project as the best, so it will be interesting to see how his combination of limited athleticism and deadly range plays out on this level.
He was an explosive scorer for BYU, but will he be exposed on the other end in the NBA? Jimmer is just one of the rookies we can't wait to see.
Kemba Walker
1 of 4Jimmer isn't the only point guard with questions about his ability to run an offense. Walker is fresh from leading UConn to the national title, but many think he is a shooting guard trapped in a point guard's body.
Walker is lightning quick and he has a knack for getting in the passing lanes, but most of all, he's a winner. He is my pick to win NBA Rookie of the Year.
Jan Vesely
2 of 4At 6'11", 245 pounds, Jan Vesely is either going to be a cross between Tom Chambers and Andrei Kirilenko, or a more athletic Nikoloz Tskitishvili. If you're saying "who?", that's my exact point.
Vesely is an intriguing athlete with crazy size. He can play either forward, but he has some glaring holes in his game. He is a sub 50 percent free-throw shooter, with only a decently accurate outside shot.
However, Vesely has the handle of a man 5" shorter and explosive hops. Think Chambers' two knees in the face of Mark Jackson-like hops.
Boom or bust, get ready for a highlight reel or two.
Enes Kanter
3 of 4Kanter was considered the top big man in the draft by many. He is going into a weird situation in Utah, as the Jazz already have Al Jefferson, Derrick Favors and a healthy Mehmet Okur.
It will be interesting to see if Kanter can play well enough in limited minutes to encourage the Jazz to move either Jefferson or Okur.
Iman Sumpert
4 of 4Shumpert is a freakish specimen. He recorded the highest vertical leap of any prospect at the combine. He has a reputation as a good defender, which is something the Knicks desperately need.
If he can grab a hold of the shooting guard spot, the Knicks lineup could be dangerous. Hopefully, he can fight off the other aspect of his reputation, which is one that kept him in the doghouse at Georgia Tech.
