5 NFL Teams That Desperately Need an Offseason Infusion of Talent

Gary DavenportDec 11, 2011

The 2011 NFL regular season is winding down. Many teams are well on their way to a playoff spot (or scrambling like mad to secure one), but for the league's bottom feeders, the season likely can't end soon enough.

These teams sit at the bottom of the standings for a many number of reasons, but most have at least one (and sometimes many) glaring holes in their rosters that will need to be addressed in the offseason.

Here's a look at a handful of such teams—squads that are definitely in need of an injection of talent if they're ever to overcome the sickness of suck.

1. Minnesota Vikings

1 of 5

The Minnesota Vikings fell to a woeful 2-11 on the season with a 34-28 loss to the Detroit Lions, and as has been the case for most of the season, the Vikings secondary was abused with some regularity.

Shoring up the back end of their defense is a priority if Minnesota is going to claw their way out of the NFC North cellar next season.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars

2 of 5

While the Jacksonville Jaguars played perhaps their best game of the season in rolling the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 41-14, the fact remains that the 4-9 Jaguars have any number of holes to fill in the offseason, including both lines, wide receiver, and in the defensive backfield.

3. St. Louis Rams

3 of 5

Many pundits believed entering this season that the St. Louis Rams were a team on the rise in the NFC West, but as the 2-10 Rams have plainly shown this season they still have several needs that must be addressed, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

4. Cleveland Browns

4 of 5

The Cleveland Browns seem to be a perpetually rebuilding football team, but as their 30th-ranked offense has shown with lousy performance after lousy performance there's still a lot of work to be done on the shores of Lake Erie.

5. Indianapolis Colts

5 of 5

It more or less goes without saying that an 0-13 team is in need of an infusion of talent, but it may well take more than one year for the Indianapolis Colts to get their proverbial act together, as they have more areas that desperately need to be addressed than positions at which they're relatively set.
