Knicks Rumors: 5 Point Guard Options to Replace Chauncey Billups
There is no point on wondering what a full season of Chauncey Billups, Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire together in New York would look like.
With the Knicks close to signing center Tyson Chandler, Billups' short career as a Knick will come to an end, as the club will amnesty the veteran point guard, making him a free agent.
With Billups gone, that leaves the Knicks with a hole at point guard.
Here are five candidates to replace him in New York.
Iman Shumpert
1 of 5The Knicks' No. 1 pick in last summer's draft could be a sleeper to step in and run the show right off the bat.
If the Knicks don't sign someone, the starter is going to have to come internally.
Therefore, that means Shumpert or...
Toney Douglas
2 of 5Douglas is the logical option until the Knicks make a move, and even if they do, he will be in the mix somewhere.
You could do much worse than Douglas, who is a scorer and a good defensive guard, but you could do better as well.
One thing you would like to see more out of Douglas if he gets more minutes is an improved ability to penetrate.
Baron Davis
3 of 5The Cavs are expected to amnesty Davis today, and it's expected that he would come to New York at a discount price.
If that's so, Davis would present the best option at upgrading the position, and he would fit in very well in the Knicks' up-tempo system.
JJ Barea
4 of 5The Knicks have reportedly been in contact with the agent for Barea.
Barea would be a good fit in New York. He's a scorer, and he runs the pick-and-roll very effectively. For what he doesn't have in a great jump shot, he makes up for by being able to effectively penetrate the lane.
Carlos Arroyo
5 of 5Arroyo is a guy that has interest in playing in New York.
Running the pick-and-roll comes naturally for him, and he's very good at pushing the ball and making quick decisions—both of which are necessities in Mike D'Antoni's offense.
