NFL Power Rankings: Losing Teams with Eyes on Offseason

Wes ODonnellDec 7, 2011

Not every team is as fortunate as the Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots or Pittsburgh Steelers of the world.

These perennial playoff contenders go into every season expecting more than just a postseason berth; they expect Super Bowls.

As we sit in Week 14, all three have their eyes on the postseason's biggest prize.

The same cannot be said for a number of teams that simply want the season to end as soon possible.

Here are three losing teams with their eyes already fixed on the offseason and the NFL draft.

Indianapolis Colts

Overhaul—major overhaul. We're talking new coach, possibly new quarterback and a new way of doing things in Indianapolis.

The Colts still have a shot at winning four games, but we all know that isn't going to happen and there is no excuse for (potentially) going winless in a 16-game season.

Indianapolis has been a postseason contender every year Peyton Manning has lined up under center. And now, with him missing an entire season, it looks like he may never line up under center for the Colts again.

The Colts aren't only thinking about the offseason, they're losing their way there as fast as possible.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs don't know exactly what they need (a defense would be a good start) but they want to start figuring it out as soon as possible.

A year ago this was a 10-win team that barely missed the postseason. Now the Bucs are on the verge of a 10-loss season with much of the same nucleus and parts.

Something has changed in Tampa Bay and the team needs to find a way to turn into something positive.

The Bucs are too young and talented to flounder this way.

Philadelphia Eagles

This team made so many mistakes this offseason it is hard to even find a positive signing on its books.

Big name after big name has yielded only disappointing loss after disappointing loss.

Andy Reid is unlikely to be fired, but there is a compelling case to be made against him.

The Eagles need to figure out their future and fast. The only way they can do that is by getting into the offseason and righting some of their wrongs from the previous summer.
