Andy Reid: 5 Ways Philadelphia Eagles Coach Can Save His Job
The Philadelphia Eagles continue to flop and head coach Andy Reid's seat continues to grow hotter.
No coach can survive a four- or five-win season when leading a Super Bowl favorite.
Right?
Andy Reid just might.
Whether the team scrapes together a few more wins, or someone else takes the fall, there is a strong chance that Reid keeps his job.
1. Strong Finish
1 of 5The best thing for Andy Reid's job security would be wins. Obviously.
If the Eagles manage to win several more games and finish the season 7-9, the head coach will more than likely be safe.
At this point Reid's motivational skills will be tested.
In addition to dialing up the right schemes and plays, he will need to convince his players it's still worth playing hard this season.
If playmakers like Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy can push this team to a few wins, Reid will stay.
2. Make Impression in Final Divisional Games
2 of 5Andy Reid has done extremely well against NFC East rivals during his tenure.
He has the opportunity to remind everyone of that during the final two weeks of the season.
The Eagles will close out their disappointing season with games against the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins.
Regardless of the games leading in, Reid can make a statement with divisional wins.
Tripping up the Dallas Cowboys during their playoff push would go a long way towards protecting Reid.
3. Other Front Office Members Take the Fall
3 of 5Whether Andy Reid stays or goes, change is inevitable.
A supposed Super Bowl contender has fallen to 4-8 and someone will have to pay for that. The only question is who will fall?
It's possible that GM Howie Roseman or someone else in the front office could bear the burden.
Firing Roseman doesn't sound like a fair response. He brought in all the talent and Reid hasn't put it all together. Regardless, it is a possibility.
If the Eagles continue their collapse, Reid could be saved by other changes within the front office.
4. Agree to Coaching Changes
4 of 5The most popular rumor, from PFT's Mike Florio, swirling right now is that Andy Reid could save his job by canning defensive coordinator Juan Castillo.
The biggest problem this season has been the ineptitude the defense.
Castillo made an unheard-of jump in responsibility and was charged with coordinating a new scheme with new faces. Things have gone about as badly as possible.
Reid could save his job by removing Castillo and hiring an experienced, respected defensive coordinator.
5. Ownership Loyalty
5 of 5Much to the chagrin of Eagles fans, ownership has been steadfastly loyal to Reid. The fifth reason is that Reid is simply untouchable at this point.
It's possible that even if the disastrous results keep piling up, Reid will be safe regardless.
Owner Jeffrey Lurie is close with Reid and might be willing to overlook this train wreck entirely.
This final point might be the one that scares Eagles fans the most.
