4 Most Undisciplined Teams in the NFL

Ryan AlfieriDec 4, 2011

Some teams are undisciplined in the name of being "tough guys" and creating a culture; others just aren't very good. Either way, you can tell a team is undisciplined by the number of penalties and blown assignments they have.

The Raiders are usual culprits of being undisciplined (and they live up to their name this year), but a few other teams have emerged as being notorious for their undisciplined ways.

Here are the four most undisciplined teams of 2011.

Oakland Raiders

1 of 4

Not only are the Raiders the most penalized team in football, but they are really undisciplined on tape as well. When they hosted the Broncos, they were constantly caught out of their gaps and assignments.

For a team that is so talented in their front seven, particularly on the defensive line, to be so bad at defending the run is mind-blowing.

Detroit Lions

2 of 4

The Lions have gained a reputation for being dirty thanks mostly to the actions of Ndamukong Suh, and it is all deserved. The Lions are far behind the Raiders in terms of penalties.

Also like the Raiders, the Lions are so focused on generating a pass rush they they often lose contain, thus resulting in having difficulty stopping the run.

Again like the Raiders, this undisciplined style is somewhat by design, as both coaches strive to create similar perceptions about their football teams.

Philadelphia Eagles

3 of 4

Whether its a blown assignment by a linebacker, dropped balls, DeSean Jackson getting unsportsmanlike penalties, missed tackles, or a safety biting on a play-action, it's the little things that have killed the Eagles this season.

All of these things are uncharacteristic of an Andy Reid-coached team, but the reality is, the Eagles have been one of the most poorly coached teams in football this year.

They can't stop the run, they have blown coverages, and get unnecessary penalties, like Brian Price, who Raheem Morris promptly sent home (yes, home, not the showers).

Reports are now surfacing that the players don't respect Raheem Morris, who is referred to as "Rah" by the players. If Morris cannot get his team under control, it may cost him his job.
