2012 NFL Draft: 12 Teams That Should Forget About 2011 and Focus on Future

David LevinDec 5, 2011

There comes a time when you just realize it is not your year. Your defense does not hold opponents in check. Your offense is woeful and needs a shot of adrenaline. Your special teams have not helped you with field position all season.

And with four games left to go in 2011, maybe it is time you should give up the ghost and prepare for the 2012 season now, mainly to get a feel for who might be worth keeping on your team and who would exact some trade value.

We have seen teams plummet in the past few weeks. They need a new system and more than that, they need the nightmare of this NFL season to go away as quickly as possible.

For others, it is a middle ground where they cannot improve themselves until they see what younger talent can be effective.

These teams need to focus on 2012 now.

Indianapolis Colts

Let's get the most obvious one out of the way.

Wouldn't it have been hoot if the team with the worst record in the league beat their rivals for their first win of the season.

Santa Claus would have come early for that to have happened.

The Colts need the nightmare to finally end.

Cleveland Browns

2 of 12

The team's defense is pretty good. The offense is so woeful.

They need help at quarterback, running back and receiver.

That about sums up the issues on this team. The running game could be good if there were not so many issues, drama and injuries.

The Browns have two picks in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, which could yield a runner and a deep threat on the outside.

Washington Redskins

3 of 12

This team was doomed once it lost its first game of the season.

It was all downhill after that.

Maybe they go after a quarterback in the Draft or try to get Jason Campbell back.

This team needs a makeover like Washington needs new government.

Vince Young is not the answer to help this team get back to respectability. The Dolphins are next up for this sinking ship. Michael Vick may be able to play.

Do you really think that will change anything?

The biggest question now is can Andy Reid save his job? And, can DeSean Jackson coexist on this team with Eagles management?

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

John McKay must be laughing from the grave.

They have lost five straight.

They cannot get out of their own way.

The Carolina Panthers have made them look like fodder for other NFL teams.

Has Raheem Morris lost control of this ship?

Kansas City Chiefs

I know the team won against the Bears in an ugly contest, but let's be real about it—there will only be one team coming out of the division and that looks like the Tebows.

The Chiefs have become a team lost in their own shadows and need some sunlight to help them find their own way home.

San Diego Chargers

They were once a team considered to be a Super Bowl contender.

Now, all you can do is laugh at them.

Five straight losses then the win against Jacksonville. Management in disarray. There is talk of losing both the head coach and general manager after the season. '

Jacksonville made them look like playoff contenders but you don't know what will happen next week.

St. Louis Rams

8 of 12

They are 2-10 on the season.

Injuries have decimated them and the running game seems to have failed them.

Wasn't this supposed to be the "chic" pick in the NFC?

Jacksonville Jaguars

9 of 12

New coach, but not a new offense.

Someone please help Blaine Gabbert and this bleeding offense.

Interim head coach Mel Tucker deserves a better team.

Arizona Cardinals

10 of 12

Now that Kevin Kolb is back, maybe this team has some life.

Still, they are not making the playoffs and the team needs to regroup.

Beating the Cowboys was a good thing, but it did not help them with their draft standing.

Seattle Seahawks

11 of 12

They beat Philadelphia, but it is not a win to hang your hat on.

Seattle has a great runner in Marshawn Lynch and nothing else to speak of.

Pete Carroll will need a new passer and a rebuilding project.

Buffalo Bills

12 of 12

It was a nice run for five or six weeks.

Then the bottom fell out after Ryan Fitzpatrick was offered an extension on his contract.

Injuries did not help either.

Chan Gailey has them moving in the right direction.
