Week 13 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Santonio Holmes and Others to Bench

Chris TrapassoDec 2, 2011

Now is most definitely not the time to start a risky fantasy football player.

You've got to secure those final victories and gear up for the postseason.

Having said that, here are three guys you must click and drag to your cyber bench before Week 13's action.

Santonio Holmes

Holmes has been one of the most clutch wide receivers in football over the last three years and he caught the game-winning TD pass last week against the Bills.

However, this week, he matches up with Redskins' top corner DeAngelo Hall.

What's more, the Redskins pass rush—which has already registered 33 sacks this season—should be able to create consistent pressure on Sanchez, which doesn't bode well for any of the Jets' receivers.

He's usually a reliable start, but benching him isn't a horrible idea this week.

Steven Jackson

Jackson eclipsed 128 yards in three consecutive games. He then followed that outburst with two disappointing efforts in which he didn't total more than 64 yards on the ground.

This week, he faces San Francisco's No. 1 ranked run defense and what I believe to be the NFC's most dynamic linebacking duo in Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman.

Although Jackson has been one of the only semi-consistent offensive threats for St. Louis all season when he's been healthy, this is a horrible matchup for him in San Francisco.

To the bench.

Carson Palmer

Palmer was a decent waiver wire addition when he was brought to the Raiders because of the running game and speed at receiver.

He's settled into the offense now, but I'm not in love with his matchup this week against a much-improved Miami Dolphins defense.

Since their bye (Week 7), the Dolphins only allowed seven passing touchdowns and have caused eight turnovers.

With lingering injury issues in his receiving corps, this is probably the time you want to bench Mr. Palmer.

Check the other players you must bench for Week 13 here.
