Why Andy Reid's Seat Is Scorching Following Another Big Loss

Jesse ReedDec 2, 2011

The Philadelphia Eagles and head coach Andy Reid embarrassingly lost another game on Thursday Night Football (NFL Network) to the Seattle Seahawks. Andy Reid's hot seat is officially scorching.

It's not just that the Eagles lost that makes this fact so plainly obvious. It is the way the team is losing.

Andy Reid's Eagles are getting pounded—and I mean pounded—by teams whose talent base is far inferior to that of his own squad. This is happening because the Eagles are not a team in the sense of what a team really means.

A team doesn't just suggest that a group of individuals assemble for one cause. Rather, a team suggests that all the individuals that have gathered are there to work as one for one cause.

I must say that the onus of blame isn't to be set squarely upon the hefty shoulders of Andy Reid, but he is the one that will take the fall. Howie Roseman took the reins this offseason. That is, of course, if you believe cornerback Asante Samuel.

Samuel was asked about his head coach when the cornerback was put on the trading block in training camp. He said this about whether Reid was involved or not:

"

"No, actually I don’t," Samuel said. "I think there’s a power struggle around here. But it’s all good. Like I said, me an Andy are cool. I’m here to play for Andy. He’s my head coach. That’s what matters."

"

The Eagles must start over from scratch in order to recover from this debacle. The best way to do this is to fire Andy Reid.

If there is a power struggle going on, owner Jeffery Lurie needs to nip it in the bud. Personally, I'd kick Roseman out, too.

The Eagles franchise has some serious, costly decisions to make, and they should start making them sooner rather than later. The fans in Philly deserve much better than what they have been served.
