Knicks Rumors: Teams New York Should Recruit To Facilitate Chris Paul Trade
There are a few things we know to be true.
For one, the Knicks want Chris Paul. Secondly, Paul wants to be a Knick, having finally demanded a trade to New York. The last thing we know to be true is that the Knicks don't have the assets they need to reel Paul in from New Orleans.
As it looks now on paper, the Knicks have Chauncey Billups and his $14.2-million expiring contract, which is a very attractive piece. Young guards Toney Douglas, Iman Shumpert and Landry Fields could also be part of any deal for Paul.
But that's not nearly enough to get a deal done.
In order to do so, the Knicks would have to get a third team involved.
Here are a few of the possibilities.
Utah Jazz
The Jazz could be looking to deal one of their big men in Paul Millsap or Al Jefferson. Depending on whether or not the Hornets can re-sign their own big man in David West, a combination of Billups, one of the Knicks' young guards and one of the Jazz's big men could be intriguing.
Los Angeles Clippers
The Clippers have a few attractive pieces, including Chris Kaman, but their main interest may be saving those pieces in an attempt to land Dwight Howard
Any Team Close to Playoff Contention With a Max Contract
I kept this very general for a reason: The amnesty clause.
We just don't yet know who (or if) teams will apply the clause to. There could be a team or two stuck with a big contract due to come off the books in the next year or so that could deal that in return for a player that could help them immediately.
There are so many situations that could happen on paper, but we just won't know until the Paul-to-Knicks talks become a little more heated than just rumors.
