2011 Bowl Predictions: Houston Will Prove They Deserved Shot at LSU with BCS Win
The Houston Cougars are arguably the best team in college football right now, right up there with LSU.
You don’t believe me?
You will after they win the Conference USA championship this week and then just trash an opponent from one of the so-called power conferences in a BCS bowl.
Houston is going to play in the Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl or Orange Bowl and destroy whichever opponent one of the big six conferences sends up against them.
This is going to cause a great deal of BCS controversy and fuel further debate about who actually is the national champion.
This is a good thing for college football. Maybe we will actually get a real discussion about having a playoff system put in place to determine the best team in the nation.
Houston is a special program this year and Case Keenum is the definition of a college superstar. He’s made the most of his sixth-year of eligibility and has his Cougars rolling through every single contest they are a part of. He’s thrown for 43 touchdowns and just three interceptions on the way to a 12-0 record.
One more win and these kids are going to be on the verge of shocking the world by lighting up a team like Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State or Michigan.
That begs the question, who can stop the Cougars?
Perhaps LSU, the team that owns the No. 2 scoring defense in the nation? Maybe they could stop the highest-powered offense we’ve seen in quite some time?
It’s unfortunate that we will never know because this Houston team will never get a chance to match up with the 2011 Tigers.
Because the media has anointed Alabama the second best team, despite not even being able to make their conference title game and having a loss on their record, an undefeated team is getting robbed of their chance to play for the title.
This is criminal and it’s going to be apparent after Houston blows out a big name program that they should have been the team to challenge LSU, not the Crimson Tide.
